Countdown to Commencement

This week there is much to celebrate with soon-to-be graduates from Gainesville High School and Wood's Mill High School to take part in their graduation commencements.

Wood's Mill High School's graduation  will take place on Wednesday, May 20, at 7:00 p.m. at the Wood's Mill High School Gymnasium.  Twenty-two students eagerly await crossing the stage to receive their diplomas.

Gainesville High School will hold its commencement on Friday, May 22, at 7:00 p.m. at City Park stadium.  Four hundred students will receive their diplomas and will rekindle the tradition of holding commencement at City Park.  For several years, GHS has held its graduation at the school's gymnasium; however, this year, a committee of students and faculty decided to revisit the past tradition of holding commencement at City Park .

Nevertheless, whether creating new memories or continuing past traditions, the Class of 2015 are counting down the days to their much anticipated graduation!

Bittersweet High School Memories

As their final high school days draw near, seniors began to reflect on the many bittersweet memories and lessons learned throughout their high school years.  When asked what was the most memorable moment of high school, Naisha Lopez states, "The most memorable moments of my senior year would be being on the homecoming court, [participating in] Miss GHS, and becoming Student of the Year!"  Senior Kianna Mitchell states that her most memorable moments are "Friday night lights, mock trial competitions, and sectionals for track".

The things that that they will miss the most about high school are their teachers.  "The coaches/gym teachers are what I'll miss the most.," says Naisha.  "They always really cared about  [me]." Kianna states, "I think surprisingly I'm going to miss some of my teachers [because] they have really made an impact on my life."

Both students were in agreement that their days leading up to graduation are bittersweet yet they are excited about finally graduating and becoming independent.   Kianna states, "I am excited to see what my future holds and I will miss doing the things that I used to do."

Board of Education Meeting - May 19, 2015

At the May 19 Board of Education meeting, the School Board recognized several special guests at the Public Safety Complex. Guests included our 2015 Employee Retirees, 2014-2015 Teachers of the Year, Heroes of the Herd Award recipients and a GHS student athlete. We are appreciative of the hard work, dedication and commitment from all of our teachers, administration, support staff as well as our students.  We are also grateful for the many years of service given by our retirees in serving our students and our school district.
