A Message from Religious School Principal, Lois Tompkins

We will conclude our month of Jewish music this Sunday with Naomi Less, an Educator and Artist-in Residence.   Naomi will be visiting our classrooms during the morning, teaching songs of gratitude.  At 11:15, she will hold a concert in the main sanctuary, with a Tu B'Shevat theme.  Please feel free to join us for the concert.
After school, Naomi will be lead a workshop for our Religious School staff.  She'll be working with us on "Connecting to Prayer".
Look for more information about Naomi Less and other opportunities with her this weekend under "JJC Events" at the bottom of this page.
                                  ---------------------------------------------------
Tu B'Shevat (the 15th of the month of Shevat) is on Monday, Jan. 25.  This holiday celebrates the official birthday of trees, and is one of the four Jewish new years! We help to solidify our bond with Israel by eating various fruits and nuts found in the Holy Land.  The  holiday has also come to signify the rebirth of the land and a hope for the renewed strength of people everywhere.  Paying to have a tree planted in Israel through JNF (Jewish National Fund) has become a popular activity on Tu B'Shevat.
In celebration of this holiday, we will be sampling Israeli fruits, and learning the proper blessings for each.  We'll also have a "shehechiyanu" (the prayer for eating new foods) table, giving each child a chance to try something that they have never tasted before.  Ask you child what new tastes they experienced this week!

Shabbat Shalom,
Lois
