EPA Collecting More Information on Lead Paint Test Kits
On December 21, the EPA announced it is having
a second public comment period on lead paint test kits
,
and other proposed methods, used to comply with the Lead: Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) rule. At present, the two EPA-approved test kits for RRP compliance produce a false-positive rate well-above the requirement of 10 percent. EPA has not indicated what approach they will take to provide relief and reform to the RRP Rule.
NLBMDA spoke at a meeting in Washington, D.C. about the ongoing challenges with test kits used for RRP compliance and submitted written comments. Since then, NLBMDA has met with EPA representatives about ways of improving RRP compliance without dramatically increasing costs. NLBMDA plans to submit comments for the second comment period ahead of the deadline on February 19, 2016 deadline.

Builder Confidence Holds Firm in January
Builder confidence in the market for newly-built single-family homes held steady at 60 in January from a downwardly revised December reading of 60, according to the National Association of Home Builders/Wells Fargo Housing Market Index (HMI). NAHB expects growth in 2016 for the single-family, multifamily, and remodeling sectors of the residential construction industry as continued job growth supports demand for housing.
