Leadership Introduction
From Julie Sasseen, Outgoing Board Chair

Julie Sasseen
Julie Sasseen

It has been a pleasure being the Board Chair for River Cities United Way from 2014-2015. I am very happy about the last year and the accomplishments our board, employees and volunteers have been able to accomplish. Did you know that we exceeding our fundraising efforts by 22% in the Kingman community and by 21% in the Lake Havasu community? This was accomplished with a lot of hard work and the generosity of people like YOU, so THANK YOU! This money will go to great programs within these communities. I am excited about the future direction of River Cities United Way and the good this organization does in our communities.

I pass the hat to Dennis Mueller, our new board president for 2015-2016. I can't wait to see what great things happen in the future! Thanks for the opportunity to serve our community!

Julie - The staff and volunteers of River Cities United Way are grateful for your service to our community in every capacity you serve. Thank You!

From Boys & Girls Club of Kingman...
We were contacted by Cornerstone Mission about a family in need. Three children and been "dropped" off with their grandmother to live. The grandmother lived in a senior community and was evicted as the kids were not allowed. They are currently living in Diana's Faith House until custody and housing can be accomplished.

With the Scholarship Money that we receive from United Way, we were able to provide a full scholarship for each child, totaling $1,500. Because of your support we are able to provide a FUN and positive environment for these children as they transition through a very difficult time.

Community Spotlight:

An elderly lady's power pole, which supplied power to her home, had broken. She was on a very small fixed income and had no way to pay for the related costs to replace the pole.

This woman was using an extension cord running to the neighbor's home to supply her power. This meant that the neighbor was paying for her neighbor's power.

The neighbor lady was supportive and even creative in ways to help the woman purchase the pole. She contacted the Kingman River Cities United Way office to determine if there were any possibilities of funding to replace the pole.

As there were no programs or service providers that could assist with this unusual request, a number of phone calls were made and referrals followed. The project was a lot more complicated than just "purchasing a power pole."

We feel blessed and very happy to report that there are amazing people that live within our River Cities United Way Regional area and with team work and the desire of good people that care about doing the right thing; this lady is now receiving her own power with a new pole.

River City United Way wishes to offer a big "THANK YOU" to the following:

Dan Campbell for coordinating this project and Campbell Electric of Lake Havasu for coordinating all permits and installation of electrical service.
Pro Build of Lake Havasu for donating the power pole.
Cornco Excavating of Lake Havasu for the use of their mini excavator.
I.E.S. Supply of Kingman for donating electrical material.
UNS ELECTRIC, INC.
Lake Havasu City Administration.
Kingman Engineering & Construction.
