Dry brushing is an easy and inexpensive way to remove toxins and dry skins from your skins surface, allow your skin to breathe, and increase your overall energy. Dry brushing is exactly what it sounds like, brushing the skin in a particular pattern with a dry brush, usually before showering.
For best results, it’s recommended that you brush the skin toward the heart, starting at the feet and hands and brushing toward the chest, moving up to your head and finishing on your abdomen. When brushing your abdomen, start at the belly button in a small circular motion and widen your range until you cover the entire abdominal area.
I enjoy dry brushing because it feels nice on your skin, helps smooth your skin & wipes away energetic debris we release from our multi-layered etheric body. Here are some additional benefits this practice is known for:
- Lymphatic Support: The lymphatic system is a major part of the body’s immune system. It is made up of organs and lymph nodes, ducts and vessels that transport lymph throughout the body. Many of these lymph vessels run just below the skin and regular dry brushing can help stimulate the normal lymph flow within the body and help the body detoxify itself naturally.
- Exfoliation: This benefit is often noticed the first time a person dry brushes. The process of running a firm, natural bristled brush over the skin helps loosen and remove dead skin cells, naturally exfoliating skin. I noticed much softer skin in the first few days and weeks after I started dry brushing and my skin has stayed soft. Dry brushing is one of the simplest and most natural ways to exfoliate skin.
- Clean Pores: The added benefit of exfoliating the skin, is clearing oil, dirt and residue from the pores. Though it isn’t recommended to dry brush the face unless you have a special, more delicate brush, dry brushing helps improve pores on the rest of the body.
- Increase Energy & Blood Flow: One theory is that because it increases circulation, it also increases energy. Some people limit dry brushing to the mornings to avoid increased energy at night.
For optimal results, it’s recommended you do this twice a day, once in the morning before you shower and then again at night before bedtime. As an added bonus, try applying a small amount of almond or coconut oil or your favorite healthy oil to your skin to lock in the benefits. Enjoy!
