Good morning!

Mother's Day used to be so much easier. Back when we knew exactly who our mothers were & knew what moms were supposed to be. It was easy. A card. Maybe a bracelet, or some chocolate. Or a coupon that said One Free Day of Not Arguing (which we mainly did because it was fast & we forgot until late the night before. We're not proud of this, but hey, it's the truth...)

But we started getting older & maybe just a bit wiser & one day, everything we thought we knew about mothers changed. Maybe it was that late-night conversation about what it was for her to grow up in a time when a lot of moms only had a few choices about who they could be. How she still held on to the wild heart inside herself, even when the world said This is all you get to be.
So much has changed & so much is still the same. You may have more choices about who you can be, but as you go on one thing becomes crystal clear: that woman you call Mom took the life she got & she held the flame of Love at the center of her being & wrapped it around you & kept you safe & that made all the difference.

Maybe she didn't do it perfectly. Maybe there were times when she actually should've let you wear that sequin-ey thing with a bare midriff, because, hey, our times were different. But that's just quibbling.

Right here & right now, though, you still have the same decision as your own mom: how are you going to take the life you've got & hold the flame of Love & how are you going to wrap that around your people & keep them safe?

Yeah. That. How are you going to hold the flame of love in your life & how are you going to wrap that around your people & hold them safe?

It's something we think about a lot lately. It helps that lately a lot of Brian's stories are about this very same thing, so we can't help but think about it. So, when it came time to help you all start prepping for Mother's Day, we knew what we wanted to do.

This year, no special Mother's Day print. Or sculpture. Or jewelry thing. Nope. This year, it's all about how our moms held that flame of love & how we're going to sit down in front of them & look into their beautiful faces & say We get it. Love in the face of life can be hard & still, you did it. Thank you.

Of course, we have a few stories that may make it easier to say that. Stories like Heart Lessons & The Shape of Love & Something Like Magic. Or Perfect World & Stopping Time & No Regret. To make it even easier for you to choose, we put up a special page of all the stories we think you & your mom will love. There are LOTS of ways you can have the story you choose: get a print, or a sculpture, or a double frame for a special photograph. Or a wrist wrap. Or almost anything else StoryPeople you can imagine.

Or you can just find the perfect story, the one that says Mom, this is what your love meant all those years & copy it in your own handwriting in a letter.

(Yeah, that's right. Do it in your own handwriting in a letter. Even better, sit there & read it to her before you hand it over. We know it's not the usual way of doing things if you want to be a business, but guess what? We get to say how it goes & if that's what it takes to tell your mom thank you best, you go do that & know, really truly, that you have our blessing...)

So, drop in to StoryPeople.com & find the perfect story for your mom this Mother's Day. The one that tells her you're glad to stand beside her now, holding your own flame of Love. We can pretty well guarantee that it'll be a Mother's Day you'll both remember for a long time to come...

With love,

The Crew at StoryPeople

P.S. You know how we love sparkly things around here, so if you're having trouble deciding, get your mom one of the new metallic wrist wraps with the story you pick. Really. Easy decision. (Trust us on this one. ;))

P.P.S. & just so we're clear, maybe this isn't about your birth mom. There are so many ways to be a family in this wide world of ours. Maybe it's your grandmother. Or an aunt. Or your adopted mom. Maybe it's your best friend who took you in hand when you were lost that time after The-Very-Bad-Breakup. Yeah. Maybe it isn't even just one mom, but many moms. Maybe it's even your dad. Because fierce mother-heart energy doesn't always come from a female body.

Just know that's what we really celebrate when we celebrate Mother's Day...
