Meet Nan:  Maryland Department of Disabilities

Constituent Services Director

 

Morning begins at the Maryland Department of Disabilities on Baltimore's Redwood Street and we find Nan in her office returning several phone calls from constituents across the state.  On any given day, Nan's calls cover a wide range of issues from ADA compliance questions, to resource referral requests, to housing concerns.  Nan answers them all with her signature patience and well established knowledge of the available resources for individuals with disabilities in the state of Maryland.  The Maryland Department of Disabilities is pleased to have Nan Brittingham as our dedicated Constituent Services Director.  In this role, Nan is able to fulfill Governor Hogan's vision of exemplary customer service for the residents of Maryland, particularly those who have questions related to disability services and supports.  

 

When Nan is not answering resident calls and concerns, she is traveling the state and reaching out to constituents who may not otherwise experience the opportunity to have their voices heard.  Nan carries these messages back to those who impact policies and services so the department is able to consider the concerns of those we serve at all levels of government. 

 

When not working with constituents, Nan enjoys friends, reading, and travel.  She also spends time on home projects.  Nan emphasizes the importance of taking time for herself when each work day brings a fresh round of callers who need answers from her for such a wide variety of concerns.

Nan commented on  her role at the department by stating, "There is nothing that makes me more proud than to provide constituents with resources and ideas which allow them to move forward and live the life they choose.  When I experience a need or process requiring revision, I am pleased to bring this information right from the constituents to those who can impact these concerns for the better."
