The College of St. Scholastica - Health Information Management
Happy New Year from the HIIM Department!

As another year comes to a close and I put this newsletter together, I'm reminded of how fortunate I am to be a part of this HIIM community. This newsletter reflects just a fraction of the work that is being conducted by our faculty, students, and alumni, and it demonstrates the impact that CSS HIIM grads are having in the industry. Thank you for all you do for the program, the profession, and for healthcare generally. Please let us know the good things that you're doing so we can share it with this community.

From your friends at CSS, we wish you many blessings as you ring in the new year.

Cheers!

Ryan

Giving to Sr. Loretta Scholarship Fund
As an instructor, educating the students for their future as a HIM professional meant a great deal to Pat.  One way the HIIM Department is able to promote and encourage continuing student education is through the Sr. Loretta Scholarship.  The Sr. Loretta Scholarship is offered to undergraduate and graduate students to assist in the funding of their education.

As chair of the Scholarship Committee, I am requesting that donations to the scholarship fund be made this year in honor of Pat English and her dedication to HIM students and the profession.

Vicki Zeman Retires

Congratulations to Vicki Zeman who retired from St. Scholastica after teaching for thirty years in HIIM. For the last fifteen years, Vicki spent the majority of her time mentoring students and connecting with HIIM professionals through the Department's Professional Practice Experience program. Vicki had the opportunity to mentor hundreds of students over the course of her career, and she has made a lasting impact on our program and the profession generally.

We wish Vicki all the best in her retirement!

A Whole New World
By: Shelby Zemke
As a senior student in the Health Information Management (HIM) program at The College of St. Scholastica, in Duluth, MN, I was very anxious for my first AHIMA National Convention. Our professors told us to, "Network, network, network!" It was as simple as that - we were going to network. But, how easy is it for a small town girl to break out of my shell amongst thousands of people in a place that was foreign to me?  Continue reading full article here.

MS HIM Onsite - Summer 2015

This last June, we hosted the annual MS HIM onsite where 51 students presented their capstone research. It was a great opportunity to visit with our students in person and to hear more about their research projects. Our students had a wonderful time touring campus, connecting with their classmates and visiting the Duluth. The students came from across the country.
