Upper Chattahoochee Chapter #436 - Trout Unlimited
www.ucctu.org
July 2015

Our last stream restoration project for the year will be July 25 at the Martin Creek branch of the Chattahoochee just north of Helen.  This will be a great opportunity for men, women and youth to help improve the habitat for native brook trout, led by professionals from the U.S. Forest Service.  Everyone is welcome.  A hat and work gloves are the only equipment needed.  Lunch and water will be provided. You might want to bring a change of clothes for the ride back.

So that we know how many lunches to provide, please register with Bill Lott at 404-735-9989 or conservation@ucctu.org.  If you would like to car pool, meet at the Waffle House, 1470 Holcomb Bridge Road, Roswell and be ready to depart at 7:15 AM sharp. Otherwise you can meet us at 8:30 am at Martin Branch on the Chattahoochee River Road - the intersection of FS 44 and FS 178.

Our monthly meeting on July 28 will be focused on women in fly fishing.  We are pleased to have Diane Minick speak about the connection between bugs and the flies we use to catch trout.  At the meeting we will  be making our annual donation to Casting for Recovery.  Louisa Hanney will add a short presentation about her experience volunteering for TU as an active Chapter member and Council officer.  Before the meeting we will have a Q&A session about the equipment we use for fly fishing.  We will have a special free raffle for women in attendance.

We hope you will join us for this meeting, and we hope the men will bring wives, daughters, granddaughters and anyone else who is interested in fly fishing or our activities to preserve cold water fisheries.

Sincerely,
Jim

UCCTU and Casting For Recovery

The July 28th monthly meeting of the Upper Chattahoochee Chapter of Trout Unlimited (UCCTU) will be focused on Women in Fly Fishing. During the meeting, chapter President Jim Harvey will present a $1,000 check to Casting for Recovery. Casting for Recovery, based in Manchester, Vermont provides retreats, support and relief for breast cancer patients and survivors across the country through the therapeutic sport of fly fishing.

Chapter President Harvey notes, "It is an honor to support the great work of Casting for Recovery and is important for the mission of UCCTU to grow the community of fly fishers who actively work for the protection of our precious water resources."

In addition, guest speaker Diane Minick, Watershed Director of the Upper Etowah River Alliance, will present information about the insects that are prevalent on the rivers and streams of North Georgia and the artificial flies that match them. A special exhibition of fly fishing gear designed for women will also be on display.

Guide's Angle- Staycation on the River

Sweet Summer on the Chattahoochee!

Save your air-fare and save that fuel for that road trip this Summer to get away. Yes we have the best of two worlds and it just seems too good to be true. If I told you that you could catch trophy striped bass and brown trout on the same day in the same river this sounds like anecdotal trivia from a fishing guide right? If I told you that this exists in your backyard right here in Atlanta you may think this is another really good fishing story. Stay home to fish my friends you will be happy did! Water temperatures from Buford Dam will hover between 46 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit all throughout August and September making for 38 river miles of productive trout water to Morgan Falls Dam then another 60 miles downstream to West Point Lake is ideal striped bass waters
