Esophageal Impaction

Esophageal impaction, what we commonly

refer to as "choke" in horses is actually the result of food becoming lodged in the esophagus and preventing further attempts to swallow. The most common sign is feed material and saliva present and draining from (both) nostrils. While a horse that is choked may gag, cough, paw as if colicking and appear extremely agitated, rest assured that the horse can still breathe well and is not in an immediate life threatening situation.

Meet Our Newest Contributor!

Meet  Carrousel's Chief Punch! Loved by Tatiana Wegel of Maynard, MA. He prefers to keep it real in the barn so you can just call him Milo when you tell stories about him.....

"Whoa, precious cargo.... Does this girl make me look even more adorable???? Is that possible!?"

Milo has done a lot of very interesting things in his life. We asked him and his wonder owner if we could share a few of his great adventures with our readers and they were nice enough to say YES!  Everything from dressage to mounted shooting!  Please don't miss The Adventures of Milo in our upcoming newsletters and Facebook posts, quite possibly a candidate for Most Interesting Horse in the World (or at least Massachusetts...)

to receive updates on specials, coupons, great stories and more!
