The power of manufacturing

It was great to have almost 300 people attend our annual meeting this year, up from 225 our first year. The power of manufacturing was clearly a theme.

For both the state of Ohio and for Seneca County, investment and jobs in manufacturing leads the way. Keynote speaker Glenn Richardson from JobsOhio talked about how industry added more jobs (4,000) and investment ($700 million) than any other sector in the state in 2014.

For 2014, in Seneca County, manufacturers invested $42 million, more than all other sectors combined, and more than 1,000 jobs were created or retained. And, in the last four years, we've added more than 600 new jobs, a 17% increase in the industrial workforce - and it's growing twice as fast as any other sector.

This issue, we're doing a look at five programs available from the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation to help business:

 

1. Safety Grants - grants of up to $40,000 (3 to 1 match) towards the purchase of equipment which will reduce or eliminate injuries.

 

2. Transitional Work Grants - 3 to 1 matching grants from $2,900 to $6,300 (based on size) to develop a transitional work program.

 

3. Grow Ohio - this incentive program gives new employers in Ohio the opportunity for premium discounts.

 

4. Drug-Free Safety Program - 4 or 7% rebates for participating in the program. Have to be a state-fund employer (not self-insured)

 

5. BWC Training Center - this free resource offers on-site, online, and materials to check out that can help businesses reduce costs and risk.
