Dear Animal Lovers, Advocates, Rescuers & Activists:

One of those weeks where we had major gains, but also critical losses. And no balance seems to have been reached. A good example, Ontario got new standards for marine care, yet, Kiska Orca was annexed from the new regulations. I guess a) we need to accept and b) we need to be grateful for what gains we did make...Still, so sad about Kiska...she's alone, defenceless, in a goddamned bathtub for life..

BREAKING NEWS

Please share this very important message from the Police, with your Kingston area friends and family:

We're making progress with animal rights--anxiously awaiting ruling on this one:

Now, let's make some progress on the Calgary Stampede, starting with the CBC--folks, we really need to push back on rodeos. We KNOW they are wrong. Please sign this petition. In droves.

BEST PRACTICES & EMAIL SIGNATURES

I once heard Gene Baur of Farm Sanctuary NY speaking of a cow that broke her own neck trying to save her child.  Let that sink in for a minute -- and consider less meat consumption.

ANIMALS & RESCUERS IN NEED
Bonnie & Clyde are siblings who found themselves surrendered to a gas pound when they were only 3 months old in Quebec. They are saved and brought to Toronto in December of 2013 and have been living in foster care ever since. They are sweet and super cute furballs who love feathers, lazer pointers and spring toys! They are a bit shy at first but have blossomed so beautifully in foster care...Bonnie who is a bit shy takes her cues from Clyde, who is a total love bug!! You can find him sleeping on your bed, cuddling at your feet or demanding head rubs and scratches near your hands. Both have been waiting FOREVER for a family and we hope one comes for them soon as they so deserve a forever home of their own. They really love other cats and would do great in a family with friendly, and confident cats...they will learn from them...If interested in adopting the bonded pair..please email: info@teamcatrescue.ca

INFO

Three cheers for Camille Labchuk and the rise of animal rights law:

Gallup poll shows "Our Attitudes About Animals Are Changing"   (thanks Sarah West for sending -- she notes: what is interesting about this poll is that "in 2003 and 2008, 25% of people surveyed said animals deserved the same protection from harm and exploitation as we do. Today, that's up to 32% and the numbers have increased across all demographics") http://bit.ly/1PNrYeR

Could everyone please keep this on hand for when a situation arises re: pets and (Ontario) tenancy   (Thanks Ken Wood for sourcing):

Pets and "No Pets Clauses":The landlord says I must either move out or get rid of my pet; Do I?  Only if the pet is dangerous, causes allergic reactions or causes problems for other tenants or the landlord, must you get rid of your pet or consider moving elsewhere as per Landlord application to terminate tenancy based on animals.Even if you signed a lease with a "no pets" clause, if the pet is not a problem for anybody they can not enforce it; such no pets clauses are invalid under the law. You do not have to move or get rid of the pet unless the Board issues a written order to do so. (Ed note: the red hotlines will not work but you can find them through the blue hotlink above.)

Declawing -- my greatest regret: Some 37+ yrs ago, at 18 yrs of age, I bowed to pressure and ignorance, and declawed my darling cat Choulie. I hope beyond hope she forgives me. Choules, there aren't words to express how sorry I am for what I was responsible for doing to you. I hope this post today will be shared with others in your name:  Patchouli Nadon. I loved you so, yet I failed you.

RESCUE UPDATES

RIP my darling little Redford Hirst.  Redford was a "special needs" client of mine. He lived to a rockin' 21 yrs and folded his cards last week. He was just a lovely boy. Michele was an excellent mom to him; I know she'll miss him dearly. Here he is, working with me last Christmas.
