TeamDoorwaysPicTeam Doorways & GO! St. Louis

On April 11 & 12, 71 people came together to participate in the GO! St. Louis marathon and family fitness weekend.  Forty-one walked or ran in the 5K on Saturday and 30 walked or ran in the marathon, half marathon or marathon relay on Sunday. Five volunteers signed up to be course monitors and many more showed up to cheer for the runners. Thank you to everyone who participated!  We raised more than $13,000 towards programs and services at Doorways and are already talking about plans for next year's team!
SoleOfARunnerThe Sole of a Runner

Among the 71 Team Doorways members, 10 were residents. Residents were sponsored by members of our board of directors, allowing them to participate at no cost to themselves. It was great to have everyone together the morning of the race - the excitement was contagious!  During the race, one of our resident's shoes started to fall apart. In the end, she lost the entire sole of her shoes. One of our supporters watched this happen and took it upon herself to purchase new shoes for the resident.  This gift will help her pursue better fitness goals. This is just one example of the love and generosity we see at our agency on a daily basis. We appreciate each of you who give of your time and resources.

VolunteerAppreciationWeekVolunteer Appreciation Week

This is Volunteer Appreciation Week and we want to thank the hundreds of volunteers who sacrifice their time to further our mission every year.

Due to the generosity of the Lutheran Foundation, we have been able to place a greater focus on volunteering. We've added a volunteer associate who now oversees our first-ever formal volunteer program. With their help, we've seen the incredible affect volunteers can have on our mission. In just the past eight months, we have witnessed a 471% increase in volunteerism - the monetary equivalent of nearly $50,000 worth of labor.

We are incredibly honored to have such an outstanding pool of willing volunteers who can assist us in reaching new heights in the fight against HIV and homelessness. Are you or your church/group interested in volunteering?  Contact Patrick Young, Volunteer Coordinator, at [email protected].  You can also find more information on opportunities available by clicking here.
AnnualDinnerAnnual Dinner & Award Ceremony

Our Annual Dinner took place April 7 at St. Mary's Health Center. The Michael Edlin Award, Doorways' highest honor, was presented to Jay Joern. Sarah Moore received the Volunteer Award for her years of outstanding service; the Generosity Award went to Andy Cohen because he increased awareness of HIV and Housing by naming Doorways as the recipient of his winnings on a national television game show. (Past and present recipients of the Michael Edlin Award are pictured right.)
