Stephanie shares an update on her journey of independence
April 2015 -- Since
appeared in March 2012, she has been living in her home for 12 years. With the help of her Dad Steph has done some work in her home including converting one of the bedrooms into a walk-in-closet.
Steph has worked for Community Living Peterborough as a part-time receptionist since September 2012. Steph still enjoys her advocacy work as a Board Member of People First at the local, provincial, and national level. Steph was recently nominated as Secretary for the People First Peterborough Chapter and has stayed on as Secretary for People First Ontario for another term and has also agreed to continue as the Ontario Representative for People First Canada.

Community effort raises $30K to send Komets players to Special Hockey International Tournament in Ottawa
Mike Davies, Peterborough Examiner Thursday, March 19, 2015 --- Players and coaches from Jack McGee Kawartha Komets special needs hockey team load a bus at Calvary Pentacostal Church in Peterborough on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 to head to the Special Hockey International Tournament in Ottawa.
Clifford Skarstedt/Peterborough Examiner/QMI Agenc The annual Jack McGee Kawartha Komets trip to the Special Hockey International Tournament is a community endeavour. To cover all the costs of sending 50 special needs players and their families the Komets do extensive fundraising each year and raised more than $30,000 this year, says Dave Fisher, Komets co-founder with his wife Carol.
The organization's three teams packed up a Coach Canada bus Wednesday morning and left for Ottawa for the four-day tournament featuring 75 teams from across the world. An opening banquet was held Wednesday night with games Thursday to Saturday at the Bell Sensplex and Kanata Recreation Complex.

at Home eliminated says Minister in progress report
More than 14,000 individuals with special needs and developmental disabilities now have new direct funding from Ontario's Special Services at Home (SSAH) and Passport programs. Dr. Helena Jaczek, Minister of Community and Social Services, shared the good news during a visit to KW Habilitation this week, where she outlined progress on Ontario's threeyear, $810-million funding commitment for community and developmental services.
