The Spring Book & Bake Sale was a fabulous success and because it was a team effort there are many people to thank - this is, at best, an incomplete list but it's a start:
  • Melina Makris - Book Sale Coordinator
  • Supervisor John Hickman
  • Marge Schifini & Hopewell EZ Storage
  • Royal Carting
  • Volunteers who baked and sorted and hauled boxes
  • Staff members who packed up supplies, made phone calls and did everything that needed to be done

We had over 19 adults and 35 students who volunteered over 160 hours of work to raise money for their library and have fun at the same time.

Thank you everyone!!  And mark your calendars for the  Fall Book & Bake Sale on October 24 & 25.

We have so many programs coming up this summer - read on for more info and visit our web page for even more info.

Do You Know someone With Low Vision?

If low vision is keeping you or someone you know from reading, we may be able to help you get some good books back into your life.

Through the Talking Book and Braille Library located in Albany, you can receive audio cartridges, a machine to play them, an app for your phone or iPad and downloadable books and magazines.  It's an amazing service and is available to you free of charge.  Books, magazines and books for children and teens are all available.

Eligibility is based on any handicap that prevents you from holding or reading a traditional book.

Interested?  For more information, check our webpage, email or call.

When Finches Move in Swallows Swiftly Follow

Those of you who use the entrance near the Wifi know that in the spring we have a sweet little feathered family that comes to roost.

Last year's babies grew up and flew away and to our surprise early spring brought finches instead of swallows!  Well, Mama and Papa Swallow weren't taking any of that and pretty soon, the finches were gone and Mr. & Ms. Swift were back in their summer digs.  Shown here are Curly, Mo and Larry from last year.  Faces only a mother could love?  Maybe.  But we're glad that our old friends are back.

Want to learn more about swallows and finches?  Check out Credo Reference available to you free of charge with your East Fishkill Library card.

Sign of the Times

In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.
~ Mark Twain

Hot and cold, rain and shine.  This time of year it's impossible to know what the weather will do next.  In fact, part of the fun of spring is not knowing if Mother Nature will bring sunburn or snow.

But you know what's not fun?  Missing out on something that you would have enjoyed - say a yoga workshop or presentation by an author.

But with our new sign, you'll always know what to expect at the library.  We can now post multiple messages thanks to the power of LED magic.

And please note that the photo isn't just a pretty picture - the Friends of the Library annual English High Tea is almost upon us!  Call now to make your reservation.
