ADGL Seeks Diocesan Input
Parishioners in good standing may make a nomination for our next bishop.

If you are a baptized member of an Anglican parish in the Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes you are eligible to submit a name for consideration! Visit: WWW. ADGLSYNOD.COM to learn about the process, the requirements, what we are seeking in a bishop, and submit your nomination!  Fr. Kevin has paper forms if you prefer that method of voting.   You may submit one name only.
As we seek nominations for our next bishop, parishioners are asked to participate in this process by praying the following words daily at 1pm:

Almighty God, Our Heavenly Father, we humbly ask for the grace of discernment as our ADGL Standing Committee engages in the task of shepherding our diocese through the process of discerning candidates for the next bishop.

We lift our retiring Bishop Roger Ames up to you, thanking you for his faithful stewardship as the founding Bishop of our Diocese. Continue to bless him and Gretsie in these days of transition.

May you grace us in the ADGL with the wisdom to discern and embrace the next bishop that you have planned for the ADGL. We pray this in the name of Jesus our Savior and Lord who is one with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever, Amen.

Pray for the delegates, clergy and candidates that we all hear the voice of the Lord.

The church gathered on Sunday, August 30, 2015 - the celebration of the feast day of St. Augustine of Hippo - to receive new members into the body of the church and to commemorate the founding of St. Augustine's Anglican.

With open arms, we welcomed the Matsudas and the Phillipses to grow in  the faith and to serve in the Kingdom.  During the service, we sang two hymns containing the prayers of our patron saint. The recessional music was written by Dr. Timothy Dickey, a parishioner, for Dedication Sunday.

St. Augustine's began as a house church in May of 2011. This small and mighty congregation now worships at the Ellsworth Chapel at Central College in Westerville.  With a growing children's program and a focus on discipleship in God's Kingdom,  church seekers may find that St. Augustine's Anglican is a good match. Consider inviting friends to visit on Sundays at 10:00am.

For a sense of our fellowship with St. Augustine of Hippo our patron and all your saints,
Lord, receive our thanks and prayer.

St. Augustine's mission work ran the gamut on Friday, August 28, 2015. Team One set up shop at the Otterbein University student union to welcome students at First Friday  for the fall semester. Carl, Beth, Lauren, Fr. Kevin and Terry greeted students and invited them to worship with us on Sunday.   Team Two set up a booth for Fourth Friday in Uptown Westerville  to bless pets and meet folks in the community. Thanks go to St. Ann, Curt, Fr. Kevin, Fr. Ron, Ann F., Lauren, Jeanne, Jeff, Sarah, Dondra, and Orion the Dog for meeting and greeting over during the three-hour event.

Putting a face on our church is a reason for this mission work.  Hopefully, God will use the givers of mini-coolers,  pet food scoops, and red balloons to invite seekers to a small and mighty church that is changed by God to make a difference for God.

This sermon was delivered by Fr. Kevin Maney on August 30, 2015 - Dedication Sunday for St. Augustine's Anglican

On this day when we celebrate the founding of our parish, now well into its fourth year, and our patron saint, Augustine of Hippo, whose feast day was this past Friday (August 28), the anniversary of his death, how appropriate for us to consider the question, what makes a person righteous?... more
What Makes a Difference to Happiness?  Do You Know?
This reflection is by Carl, a member of the leadership team, and a Ph.D. candidate at The Ohio State University.

...Well, St. Augustine's, it's been a while since I last wrote something for the website, but my time away this summer gave me a chance to reflect on a topic that I haven't written about in a while: community.  In many respects, my time in Massachusetts this summer was wonderful, as I got a chance to connect with friends and family, but I often found myself
missing the St. Augustine's community, even on the Sundays I made it to church .. ... more
Enter the Casual
Blog post by Dr. Ben Witherington

Certainly one of the major trends since 1990 when it comes to 'having church' is the invasion of the casual. There are no dress codes, there are no rules about drinks or food or cellphone usage. It's the come as you are picnic. Of course there are exceptions to this in some churches, but not many in North America whether one is talking Protestant, Catholic, or Orthodox.  ... more

The  Anglican Prayer Bead ministry was begun by Dr. Monroe Dowling and his wife, Judy, founding members of St. Augustine's Anglican Church. They researched the concept of Anglican prayer beads, and found that beads have been used since the 8th century BC to help individuals in their prayer and meditation. This couple designed prayer beads for each person in the congregation, and they constructed a prayer to use with the beads.

These beads are a powerful tool for centering yourself in prayer each day. For whatever reason, if you have not been consistent with this tool of worship, give it another try. In addition to your daily private prayers, consider accepting the Dowlings' invitation to pray together on Sunday morning at 9:45 at the back of the church. You will finish in time to begin the worship service.  For more information, including a video on using prayer beads,  click here.
