HIGHLAND PARK BUSINESS HEADLINES
INDIAN MOTORCYCLE IS COMING TO HIGHLAND PARK

American Heritage Motorcycles has announced that it will be opening its fifth Indian Motorcycle and Victory Motorcycles dealership in Highland Park in June.  Indian Motorcycle is the iconic American motorcycle, long regarded as the aspirational brand in American motorcycling, and now backed by the corporate muscle of Polaris Industries.  Victory Motorcycles are also manufactured by Polaris who launched the brand more than 15 years ago.

Rob McNish, CEO of American Heritage Motorcycles, says "We opened our first Indian and Victory dealership two years ago in South Elgin, Illinois and we then expanded into Cleveland and Cincinnati.  We are excited and proud to be coming back home to Chicago to open our new Highland Park location.  We're calling our new store AHM CrossRoads as a nod to Chicago's long-standing leadership in all modes of transportation, and the fact that Highland Park is perfectly situated within easy reach from all over Chicagoland."

AHM is owned by a small group of industry professionals who are committed to creating and operating dealerships that place long-term customer relationships and excellent customer service first.  AHM is also committed to creating a working environment that emphasizes professional development and teamwork.

AHM is moving into the former Fields Fiat dealership at 250 Skokie Valley Road in Highland Park in time for summer.  The building will undergo a thorough remodeling in order to accommodate Indian and Victory, as well as the exciting new Polaris Slingshot and the entire line of Polaris off-road vehicles, including ATV's and the RZR and Ranger side-by-sides.

"We are very proud to be bringing all of these industry-leading Polaris brands to Highland Park and we look forward to serving customers all over the north side of Chicago and to developing a team of motorsports professionals who share our commitment to teamwork and putting customers first," says McNish.

FIVE WAYS WOMEN CAN TAKE IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL IN BUSINESS

Women are running more than a third of the privately owned businesses in the United States. With their job numbers, income, and overall growth rates accelerating at a rapid clip, it's no surprise they are feeling optimistic about business conditions and their prospects for the future. In fact, our Spark Business Barometer recently showed women business owners were more likely to have experienced higher sales over the past six months, feel good about current business conditions, and feel optimistic about the future economy. Indeed, women are making headway as business starters and leaders, and they are a driver of growth and optimism in the small business marketplace.  But there is also evidence suggesting that gaps remain - from earnings statistics to the percentage of women executives at larger companies.  Find out more here about the five ways women can take it to the next level in business.

CONSUMERS ARE SPENDING LIKE NEVER BEFORE, ACCORDING TO

MASTERCARD DATA

Consumers are currently spending more than ever before, but in different ways, [Sarah] Quinlan said. For starters, they're increasingly doing their shopping at small stores. Sales were up 7.5 percent year-on-year in March at businesses with $50 million or less in annual sales, she said, while overall U.S. retail sales remained flat for the month. "Sales are happening at small businesses," she said. Read more here

RAVINIA BUSINESS DISTRICT GOES RETRO WITH 80'S NIGHT

Everyone loves the 80s movie genre, which launched stars such as Tom Cruise, Matthew Broderick and Macaulay Culkin. To celebrate its place in movie history (Shelton's Diner's famous scene with Tom Cruise in  Risky Business ), Highland Park's Ravinia District businesses will host 80s night. As part of the continuing "Third Thursdays" series, many Ravinia District businesses will stay open until 8pm on May 21 to host 80s themed shopping nights, promotions and contests to showcase the diverse shopping, dining and essential services located in the convenient shopping area.

Join the fun at Design Quartet @ Ravinia's Breakfast Club breakfast buffet, the  Whole in One Golf Fitness Caddyshack Contest or at  Calm Massage Therapy where, in a nod to Jane Fonda, you can roll out those tired muscles to 80s music or even have your spirit cards read!

There will also be a one night only opening of Shelton's Diner, where, courtesy of  Yelp's Hugh & Me Tour of the North Shore, the public is welcome to stop by for an ice cream treat and live out the famous Risky Business scene at the diner.

Full Circle Architects will be spinning 80s vinyl, (the public is invited to bring an album from their own collection) serving refreshments and provide architectural information about Sixteen Candles and Ferris Buller's Day Off movie locations, The Nail Shop and  DS Cosmetics will be open late serving "Pretty in Pink" refreshments. Visitors are encouraged to "Hoop it Up" at SoShee Boutique by wearing their largest hoops to be eligible for special in store shopping specials.

"Ravinia is a hidden gem," says Michelle Burden, co- owner of SoShee Boutique, "because the businesses are primarily owner operated, the shopping experience here is personal and unique." Co-owner Wendy Banks adds, "We are planning a really fun event with a fun 80s fashion trivia game, hoola hoop contests and great 80s music."

Guests can conjure up memories of Crossing Delancy and the lower east side by stopping into Arthur M. Feldman Judaica Gallery for a kosher pickle, go Back to the Future with Field Violin, to the 1680s and watch a violin being made the way Stradivarius would have, visit  The Magic Needle knit shop for a "Knitty Business" promotion featuring select yarns on sale or order the "Abe Froman" special at  Piero's Pizza. Visitors who attend the event in 80s garb can have their photos snapped by former Playboy photographer Jeff Cohen, at Jeff Cohen Creative.

Make reservations for dinner, or stay for drinks or dessert at the District's well-known and lively restaurants: Abigail's,  Happi Sushi,  Merlo's and  Ravinia Barbecue. If there is no time to linger over dinner, Piero's or  Hunan Pearl make it simple to bring home a meal for the entire family.
