SCIP INTERNSHIPS

The Serving Communities Internship Program (SCiP) provides non-profit organizations with the opportunity to hire post-secondary students for meaningful, skill-based internships. Students receive a $1000 bursary. There is no cost to organizations. Applications for the new program year will be accepted starting August 1.

DOREEN ARMSTRONG

It's with sadness we inform you that Doreen Armstrong has passed away. Doreen served on ESCC's very first board of directors from 2005 to 2008 and founded Lifestyle Helping Hands Seniors Association. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 27 at 10 a.m. at Evergreen Funeral Chapel, 16204 Fort Road with a reception to follow.
2015 STARS OF ALBERTA VOLUNTEER AWARDS

The Stars of Alberta Volunteer Awards recognize Albertans whose volunteer efforts have contributed to the well-being of their community and fellow community members. Six awards will be presented: two in each category of youth, adult and senior at an awards ceremony to be held December 4 as part of celebrations marking International Volunteer Day on December 5. Submit your nomination online or download the nomination form (PDF) on the Stars of Alberta Volunteer Award website. The deadline for nominations is September 15.

RESEARCH BRIEF: HEALTH OF CAREGIVERS OF OLDER ADULTS

Maintaining caregiver health is important, and a recent study of caregivers from Alberta and Ontario sheds light on the experience of family caregivers who are providing care to older adults with multiple chronic conditions. The results of the study, coordinated by the Aging, Community and Health Research Unit at McMaster University, will be used to design ways to support family caregivers so health can be improved and maintained. Key points and findings from the study are outlined in the research brief: Caregivers of Older Adults with Multiple Chronic Conditions (online version, PDF).

GREY MATTERS EARLY BIRD REGISTRATION

Early bird registration for the Grey Matters conference ends July 31. Until July 31 pay $240. Beginning August 1 the cost increases to $290. Grey Matters 2015 will be hosted in Drumheller on September 29 and 30. The conference offers seniors' service providers with the opportunity to hear from dynamic speakers and learn about best practices, emerging issues and trends that enhance seniors health and wellness.
