Stress and Anxiety Relief through Acupunture
Dr. Silvia Vidas

Why acupuncture (or acupressure) is awesome in relieving stress and anxiety

Most people know that acupuncture is very effective to relieve many types of pain; however what most people do not realize is that acupuncture is very effective to relieve stress and anxiety.

Why acupuncture relieves stress & anxiety from a Chinese Medicine prespective?

The Chinese Medicine explanation of why acupuncture is effective to relieve stress and anxiety (as well as pain) is that the acupuncture promotes the circulation of energy (qi) and blood throughout the channels (meridians) of the body.  When someone is experiencing stress or anxiety the body goes into 'fight or flight mode' and this disrupts the flow of qi.  As a result the body feels tight, the breath is restrictedthe heart rate is accelerated, and the intestines become tense leading to a disruption in bowel movements, sleep is affected, because the energy is not flowing freely throughout the body.  Inserting the acupuncture needles at specific points on the body unblock the areas of tension and restores the flow of qi and blood so that the body can relax and return to a state balance.

Why acupuncture relieves stress & anxiety from a Western prospective?

From a Western prospective, the majority of acupuncture points are located close to nerves on the body; therefore it is proposed that acupuncture primarily produces its effects through regulating the nervous system which aids in the activity of pain killing chemicals such as endorphins and immune system cells.  Acupuncture activates the parasympathetic or "relax and digest" system so that that all the internal organs can relax, hormones become balanced and stress is relieved.

So if you are experiencing stress in your life, you may want to consider acupuncture.  In addition, no matter what reason you are coming for acupuncture, whether it is for a pain conditionsheadaches, insomnia or more (see www.drsilviavidasacupunture.com for condition treated) some of the most awesome 'bonus' side effects that you may experience include stress relief, improvement in sleep, digestion and overall wellbeing!  This also explains why acupuncture is so awesome to promote health and prevent disease.

Dr. Silvia's philosophy:  "I believe that the body-mind has an innate intelligence and as the body mind starts to relax it remembers that sacred place of wellbeing and healing occurs.  My sessions are gentle in nature and presented in a calm and supportive environment.  Individuals usually leave a session feeling relaxed & rejuvenated."
