Click to listen! Seinte Mari moder milde - James MacMillan The Crossing @ Christmas 2015
What a fantastic evening we had
Friday as we continued our Christmas tradition: a huge crowd (thanks to those who stood!); a hushed and generous audience throughout; spectacular organ virtuosity from Scott Dettra; and some of our favorite works for Christmas, delivered with honesty and care by our amazing artists. Thank you to listeners and singers alike!
Don't miss the chance to hear it again, 2pm
Christmas Day on WRTI, 90.1 FM.
Gavin Bryars'
The Fifth Century
To celebrate the release of our all-Gavin Bryars recording on ECM Records, The Crossing and PRISM team up once again for the New York premiere of
The Fifth Century, Gavin's elegiac, forty-minute reflection on Thomas Traherne's Centuries of Meditations. Audiences and artists all found Gavin's musical ruminations on Eternity mesmerizing and moving when it premiered in 2014; it's a masterful weaving of saxophone and vocal colors, programmed with his Two Love Songs for women and Estonian composer Tõnu Kõrvits' Hymns from the Western Coast.
Donald discusses his gravitation toward the music of Icelandic composer Anna Thorvaldsdottir, and Anna speaks to us from Iceland about her Seven Responses libretto.
