UTAH ASPHALT PAVEMENT ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER

Executive Director's Message:
Wow!    What a year and what a month for UAPA.    Before I get any further along, I want to take just a brief moment to thank you for all you have done for the association in 2015.    It's always fun to look back on the year that was and examine challenges and opportunities that were presented for the growth and sustainability of the association.    Personally, I count 2015 as a great success, and to cap it off, here are just a few of the things that happened in December:

Uintah Basin Asphalt Summit
Special thanks to everyone that helped make the first-ever Uintah Basin Asphalt Summit a great success!  We had over seventy people in attendance at the newly-constructed Uintah Conference Center in Vernal, Utah on the 16th of December .

Don't miss the great education track that the 2016 Utah Asphalt Conference has to offer. Take a look at what 2016 education has to offer:

Asphalt Basics Track
Designed to give a basic understanding of all things asphalt, this track is for those who may be new to the industry or those who may need to just brush up on their knowledge base in this fast-moving and and ever-changing industry.

Construction and Engineering Track
Created to focus on topics, opportunities, and issues central to the asphalt pavement industry, this track offers attendees the chance to learn about topics critical to successful projects and planning.

Maintenance Track
Our most popular track at the Asphalt Conference each year, the Maintenance Track offers a first-rate education on all things related to the maintenance and preservation of our critical infrastructure here in the state.

Industry, Innovation, and Design Track
What are the challenges facing industry?  What are some of the solutions that may be out there?  As an industry, what have we done and what we will we do moving forward to seize upon the challenges and opportunities being presented to us?

Aggregates and Crushing Track
New to the Utah Asphalt Conference, the Aggregates and Crushing Track offers attendees a chance to learn about topics critical to the performance and production of durable asphalt pavements.  With a focus pointed towards the mountain, attendees will learn about the aggregates, production techniques, stockpiling, and applications critical to building the best road possible.

Pavement Preservation Journal reports on UDOT researchers:

Utah Department of Transportation researchers are attempting to establish a correlation between friction testing devices, with the potential of eventually benefitting surface courses and the drivers who use them.
Because pavement friction is an important component to safe roads, Utah DOT personnel asked researchers at Brigham Young University and Raba Kistner Infastructure to determine whether the frictional properties of aggregates used in asphalt surface treatments can be predicted, and correlate to laboratory testing.
