Green Classroom Tips for Back to School Success

 

The month of August is often known as the "dog days of summer." For parents and their students, August is also that time when thoughts turn to back to school and the long list of supplies needed to start the school year off on the right foot.


 

Shopping for school supplies is not just an annual activity for students.  Teachers are drawing up their own lists of supplies to restock their classrooms for the busy year ahead.  Options abound, but planning for supplies that fit in a green classroom can be a challenge...

What Did They Do on Their Summer Vacation? Went to Boot Camp!

 

A group of dedicated teachers attended a Green Boot Camp this summer sponsored by Honeywell. The goal of the annual program is to provide educators with the information, experience and resources they need to teach about energy efficiency, sustainability and the environment in their classrooms.

These Rockford Students Really Rock!


A "Green Team" of Rockford Michigan high school students spent part of their summer helping protect the Rogue River. Officials from the Rogue River Home Rivers Initiative Project hired a group of Rockford High students to plant and preserve green infrastructure practices in the Rogue River watershed.

Growing a Great Idea

Garden clubs around the country partner with schools to help children plan and maintain school gardens. Various programs include the Pollinators Live program, which engages students and teachers in creating diverse school gardens that incorporate native plants to attract bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and other native pollinators.
