It was such a joy to see so many of you at the 22nd Annual Bishop's Pro-Life Dinner on April 18.  And thanks to the efforts of so many devoted friends of life, like yourself, the event raised funds critically needed to continue our life-saving mission.  (Check out photos of the night here.)

As we welcome May flowers, we have many opportunities to remember and celebrate the beauty of life.  Not only is May Mary's month, it is when we celebrate all the mothers in our lives on May 10.  You can remember the special mothers in your life with an eCard available here, benefitting the CPLC's new Adopt a Hopeful program.

As we reflect on the beauty of motherhood, we remember and pray for those whose motherhood suffered through abortion but whose unborn children now live in the Lord's great mercy.  On May 15-17, we will hold our first Rachel's Vineyard™ Retreat in English of the year (flyer available here).  On May 17, we invite you to gather with us to honor hundreds of precious souls at the annual Cemetery of Innocents Graveside Memorial, at one of the world's largest mass graves of aborted children here in Dallas at Calvary Hill Cemetery. And next month, on June 27, we will offer our second-ever Project Joseph Retreat in English (flyer available here), designed specifically to help men who have lost children to abortion.   Please help spread the word about these special opportunities for prayer and healing.

I hope to also see you all on May 9 at our next Parish Pro-Life Coordinators Meeting at Prince of Peace, 5100 W Plano Parkway in PlanoPlease note: the room location is Las Mercedes Hall on the second floor.   And please remember to return the Bishop's Dinner yard signs from your parish at this meeting.

Mark your calendars for the following additional events in May:

And I hope you can join us for the annual CPLC Volunteer Appreciation Picnic and Swim Party on June 13 at the home of Bill and Carol Orender.  All CPLC volunteers, staff, and their families are invited to enjoy a day of fun, food and fellowship, plus Baby Bank prize winners will be announced!  RSVP by June 4 to help us get a head count for food.

Finally, our annual Youth For Life Pro-Life Boot Camp is fast-approaching.  We will again be hosting two sessions at the University of Dallas, on June 26-28 and July 24-28.  Early registration (and reduced prices) ends June 8.  This is a great opportunity for high school youth to learn the "ins and outs" of being a life advocate and have fun in the process!  More information and registration is coming soon at prolifedallas.org/bootcamp.  (Adult chaperones and junior staff needed.)

At the end of May, following the great Feast of Pentecost on May 24, we celebrate the Feast of the Visitation on May 31.  Like most feasts of Mary, it is closely connected with Jesus and His saving work.  The more visible actors in the visitation drama (Luke 1:39-45) are Mary and Elizabeth.  However, Jesus and John the Baptist steal the scene in a hidden way.  Jesus makes John leap with joy in his mother's womb -- the joy of messianic salvation.  Elizabeth, in turn, is filled with the Holy Spirit and addresses words of praise to Mary -- words that echo down through the ages:  "Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb."

Luke, speaking for the Church, gives a prayerful poet's rendition of the scene.  Elizabeth's praise of Mary as "the mother of my Lord" can be viewed as the earliest Church's devotion to Mary.  As with all authentic devotion to Mary, Elizabeth's words first praise God for what He has done to Mary.  Only secondly does she praise Mary for trusting God's words.  Then comes the beautiful Magnificat (Luke 1:46-55).  Here Mary herself (like the Church) traces all her greatness to God.  Let us all imitate Mary by always giving glory to God for every moment of our lives.

Thanks for all you do for Life.  God bless, and I look forward to seeing you all on May 9!

Blessings,

David Carr
