Center Update
"Row your boat, gently down the stream.
Merrily, merrily, merrily,
Life is but a dream."
August is here! Endless blue skies, gentle breezes and glorious sunsets.
And amid all this beauty, our busy lives can have us spinning like tops.
Digital
devices pull us here, there and everywhere.
Too much speed. Too much information. Too much distraction.
Our mid-day sit from 12:30 to 1PM is a perfect way to pause and reflect.
We offer this time every Monday through Thursday.
Please join us!
Our Monthly Half Day Sit will take place on August 15. Koshin, Chodo and Craig Blinderman will be teaching a week long Contemplative Palliative Care Program at Omega Institute beginning August 23.
Come September, the Center will offer many wonderful ways to
engage and explore. Ponder what having one year to live might be like,
study the Zen Precepts, or contemplate the eight great awarenesses.

WE WELCOME OUR NEW 108 MEMBERS
"As a clinical social worker, working with people toward the close of life, I have seen the immeasurable value of offering a contemplative presence. Everyone who is dying deserves this kind of care. I want to do my small part in helping to make this more widely available."
Clarie Willis, LICSW
Author of LASTING WORDS: A Guide to Finding Meaning Toward the Close of Life
"'I am so grateful for the personal revelations which have emerged from meditation, Dharma talks and the society of fellow practitioners here at NY Zen Center for Contemplative Care. I was searching for something without even knowing what it was...and here I am. Lovely."
Michael Milton
"Shortly after my beloved wife died, I visited the center in search of some support for my loss. The moment I entered, I was struck by its atmosphere of peace and caring. I realized that this was the place where I could find some comfort. I subsequently attended the Wednesday and Sunday meditation and Dharma talks and found them to be an enormous benefit in my grieving process. The work that is done here confronts the rawest edges of human tribulations with love and compassion. So I decided to become a member. Thank you so much for what you have done for me and continue to do for others."

Jukai in July
In July, the Zen Center for Contemplative Care sangha gathered for a week long sesshin ending in a Jukai ceremony for ten community members. 41 people participated in the retreat, and family and loved ones joined on Sunday to witness and celebrate the Jukai ceremony. Jukai is the formal commitment of receiving the Zen ethics/precepts as a guide for living. It was a powerful week of practice together.
