Thank You for Supporting Public Question #3!
I want to thank all the residents of Plainfield for supporting Public Question #3 which now enables us to establish a Municipal Open Space Recreation Trust Fund.  The results speak for themselves:
  • 2,269 Voted Yes
  • 1,254 Voted No
This fund will allow for the necessary upgrades and maintenance of our recreation fields and open spaces. This will provide greater access to wholesome recreational and leisurely pursuits for our children and seniors for generations to come.
Letters from Evergreen Elementary School Students

On the morning of Oct. 7th, I visited Evergreen Elementary School and participated in their "Week of Respect" student assembly.  The "Week of Respect" initiative was a week of activities led by faculty to help prevent harassment, intimidation, bullying and reminded students to have respect for one another, themselves, adults, and their school.   My discussion with the students talked about leadership and my responsibilities as the Mayor of Plainfield. The students were very engaged and asked many questions!  To my surprise, I received many thank you letters from the students that were touching, heart felt, and inspirational.  To view these student letters, click on the link below:
Amazing Maxon School S.T.E.M. Presentation
On Oct. 29th, I was truly proud to be a Plainfielder.  The Maxon School S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Program led by a team of 16 dynamic 6th grade students among a larger research group of 64, presented to me, their parents, and the City of Plainfield the benefits of a Community Garden.  This student presentation took place at the Plainfield Municipal Court.  These 6th graders were engaging and full of passion.  Not only did they include statistics, but there was a value proposition, rationale, projections, and a strategy for moving forward. One of the students even touted the creation of their own website for the project!  I was so proud to see such talent in Plainfield's younger generation and how bright the future looks.  It was an amazing feeling that evening to see the wonderful connection between students, parents, teachers and my Administration. Helping Put Plainfielders back to Work
A top priority of my Administration is to improve the quality of life for Plainfield residents. An important part of that effort is to help put Plainfielders back to work and to connect them to the right resources.                  I recently partnered with FedEx Freight and the Plainfield Board of Education and held a job fair at City Hall on Oct. 30th.  We had a great turn out of 200 residents who participated in the job fair.  My Administration will be planning additional Job fairs and developmental resources to help our residents.
Let Me Introduce You to the Newest Member of the Team
Allow me to welcome Ms. Elaine Dunn-Brown to my Administration as the Director of Community Development.  Elaine brings a diverse professional background to the City of Plainfield.  As the first minority female Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) Manager and Director of Community Relations for one of New Jersey's largest banks, she worked very closely with the community. Previously she served the residents of Plainfield as a HUD Certified Housing Counselor, assisting those in need of budget and credit counseling.  As CRA Officer for Investors Bank, she served on the Fair Lending Committee for the Mortgage Bankers of America and assisted the New Jersey Governor's Office to bring about Financial Literacy Programs to our children and subsequently became an FDIC Money Smart Facilitator. The new Director will be reporting to the Office of Economic Development, led by Deputy City Administrator for Economic Development, Carlos Sanchez.
Congratulations to Our Newly Elected Officials
I would like to offer my congratulations to Councilwomen Rebecca Williams and Gloria Taylor, School Board Elect Members David Rutherford, Carletta Jeffers, and Terrance Bellamy. Sr., for their victories at the polls on Tuesday, November 4, 2014. I wish them well as they continue their work in the service of the people of Plainfield.
Public Safety & Affairs Update
My Administration is committed to your safety and I do not offer compromise on providing the training, technology, and resources needed to protect you.   Our Fire Division recently completed training and placed in service five new thermal imaging cameras purchased from capitol improvement funds. These cameras enable Firefighters to see through zero visibility smoke to locate victims quickly in a fire.  Each Fire Company in the City will now have this life saving device.

I also offer you a resource from the Police Division that will help you and your family with suggestions and tips to help prevent burglaries: Click link below to retrieve this resource:
