I Support Legislation that would help boost Plainfield's UEZ!

On November 10, 2014, I joined Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto, and other Democratic urban Mayors in support of a bill that would provide from $25 million to $27 million for the state's 32 urban enterprise zones (UEZ) - Plainfield has an UEZ. That money is part of nearly $100 million a year in UEZ funds the state has kept for its budget since 2011. For Plainfield, the new bill would request 1% of the 3.5% collected by Plainfield UEZ businesses.  With roughly 100 UEZ businesses, the projected amount would be $133k.  These funds would best be used as originally intended: for public safety, infrastructure and other local needs in economically challenged communities.  For details of the press conference covering this announcement - click on the video below:

Mayor Mapp at Plfd Veterans' Center Ribbon Cutting Ceremony
On Veterans' Day, I had the honor of participating in the Annual Plainfield Veterans' event at City Hall. Immediately following the conclusion of the annual event, we gathered at the new Plainfield Veterans' Center.  This was an historic moment for Plainfield as we honored our brave men and women who have served our country by officially opening the doors to this center for the first time with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.  It was a beautiful day, filled with honor, patriotism, and reflection.
Plainfield Coat Drive
My Administration has partnered with Jack and Jill of America - Greater Union County Chapter and will be holding a Coat Drive on Saturday, November 15, 2014.  From 10AM - 1PM at Plainfield Action Services, 510 Watchung Ave.
Public Safety & Affairs Update
Public safety is a main priority of my administration.  As we continue to improve our processes and procedures, on November 14, 2014, Plainfield Public Safety (Police, Fire and OEM), Plainfield Health Division and the Board of Education participated in a joint public safety preparedness exercise. The drill was conducted in the City's emergency 911 operations center.  We tested our first responder protocols and efficiency for deploying resources to the public in the event of a major crisis at the Plainfield Senior Center. There will be future practical exercise as we continue to prepare our first responders for emergencies.
