From Plainfield City Hall
  Mayor Adrian O. Mapp
One Plainfield.  One Future.

During the past week, I attended the 99th Annual New Jersey League of Municipalities Conference and Exhibition.  This conference is a great developmental opportunity as there are numerous sessions covering a wide range of municipal topics, such as: finance, law, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, communications, human resources, etc.  I had the opportunity to facilitate two important sessions regarding municipal finance and infrastructure. I wanted to take this opportunity to connect with you and give you some updates.

Wishing you and family a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving!

Creating,
One Plainfield - One Future

Mayor Adrian O. Mapp
City of Plainfield
Benefits of Well Prepared Project Specifications Session
At the League of Municipalities, I presided over the "Benefits of Well Prepared Project Specifications" session.  I was joined by subject matter experts, Mary Louise Stanton, Todd Hay, and Glen Kienz.  This session, focused on how properly prepared specifications can benefit  municipal projects, what to include, and how specifications encourage competitive bids while reflecting a municipality's expectations. Just as important, developing specifications that avoid change orders which result in increased costs to municipalities and tax payers as well as potential lawsuits.
Brownfield Redevelopment Session
I also facilitated another session at the League of Municipalities, titled "Brownfield Redevelopment and LSRP's (Licensed Site Remediation Process) - Better Together."  My panel included experts: Ken Kloo, Dr. Judy Shaw, and Kamal Saleh.  Over the past twenty years, NJ's Brownfield redevelopment process has evolved significantly, resulting in the creation of the Office of the Brownfield Reuse.  This organization is staffed by case managers whose mission is to facilitate redevelopment while protecting  human health and the environment.  The goal of brownfield remediation in Plainfield's downtown is to provide clean sites for potential redevelopers to advance development in our recently designated Transit Village.  This was a very informative session for all who attended.
Allow Me to Introduce You to the Newest Member of the Team!
An important part of my Administration is to improve the quality of life for all in the City of Plainfield.  The maintenance, upkeep, and development of our residential neighborhoods and commercial corridors impact residents, businesses, and visitors to our great city of Plainfield. My aim is to reengineer the mission and processes of the inspections division. To help accomplish this, join me in welcoming Mr. Phillip Izzo as the new Director of the Inspections Division, as he will be starting on November 24, 2014.   Phillip brings with him over twelve years of municipal inspections experience. His expertise ranges from the following: construction, fire sub-code, plumbing, and electric. There will be further collaboration between departments and we can expect great things from Philip.
Public Safety & Affairs Update

With the holiday season upon us, my Administration would like to remind motorists to buckle up, slow down and drive sober. To make sure everyone gets to enjoy the holiday season, there will be an increased law enforcement presence during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend.

Improved Processes
The Plainfield Fire Division has completed training on a new document management system. The system is a cloud based retention system and will allow all Firefighters to access their orders and procedures from any Computer or portable device. It will also allow for training and certifications for Firefighters to be administered and tracked by the Chief Officers to ensure all personnel are meeting the professional standards required for outstanding public service and Firefighter safety.
Mayor's Wellness Update
My Administration takes your wellness and health very seriously and will continue to offer you resources in the areas of wellness and health. There are real dangers connected to High Blood Pressure - If left untreated, can cause serious disease.  On Wednesday, December 3, 2014 starting at 11am, during my monthly Senior Center meeting (located at 400 East Front Street) - My Administration will offer the first of a city wide series of free blood pressure screenings by a registered nurse from the Plainfield Health Division.  The purpose of the screening is to increase the knowledge and awareness of hypertension and how it adversely affects the health of individuals.  I want to encourage individuals to "Take Action" now and avoid the problems that heart disease can cause.  Should you have questions regarding the screenings, please feel free to contact the Division of Health at
(908) 753 - 3092.
Happy Thanksgiving
I encourage all to take some quiet moments to give thanks for your blessings however, great or small.  Amelia and I wish you and your families a very safe, enjoyable and happy Thanksgiving.
