One Plainfield.  One Future.
I am proud the residents of Plainfield exercised their right to vote during the last Primary election held on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.  With the conclusion of the Primary, there is an exciting air of possibility and hope.  With that hope comes the responsibility of leading our great City of Plainfield to new heights for all of its residents, and to continue forging ahead together.  The team will continue to work diligently for you, no matter the size of the challenge. City of Plainfield
SMART Growth Award

On Thursday, June 4, 2015 I felt honored as I accepted the prestigious and very competitive statewide 2015 Smart Growth Award on behalf of our great City of Plainfield.

From New Jersey Futures:
Smart-Growth Challenge: How can a small city reinvigorate a low-density area of primarily industrial buildings with a busy train station at its center?
The city of Plainfield is blessed with not one but two NJ TRANSIT train stations: Plainfield, which anchors the city's downtown area, and Netherwood, at the city's eastern end. A 2010 study on transit-oriented development opportunities in Plainfield, prepared by the Master of Infrastructure Planning Program of the College of Architecture and Design at the New Jersey Institute of Technology, led the city to re-zone both station areas. A new high-density residential zone and the Gateway Redevelopment Area were re-zoned to encourage transit-oriented development. The Plainfield station was able to receive a Transit Village designation from the New Jersey Department of Transportation in 2014. There are now 15 projects either completed or under construction that are revitalizing the city's core.

With the advent of week-day one-seat rides into Manhattan via the Raritan Valley Line, both stations are anticipating increases in ridership. The City will  capitalize on the resulting redevelopment potential around Netherwood station which is located amid a neighborhood of low-density, single-story industrial and commercial buildings. The plan is to secure Transit Village designation for this station as well.

Rainbow PUSH Wall Street Project and City of Newark Economic Summit

On Tuesday, June 2, 2015, I attended the Rainbow PUSH Wall Street Project & City of Newark Economic Summit held at Rutgers University's Paul Robeson Campus Center in Newark.  The event, hosted by Rev. Jesse L. Jackson, Sr. and Mayor Ras J. Baraka, brought together corporate executives, small business owners, entrepreneurs, academics, and community and faith leaders. "PUSHing Technology to Achieve Economic Success" was the theme of this one-day statewide summit.  I was honored to participate in a mayoral panel discussion on economic issues alongside Hillside Mayor Angela R. Garretson, Clinton Mayor Janice Kovach, Newark Mayor Ras J. Baraka, and Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor.

Earned Sick Days are Good for Plainfield
In New Jersey, nine municipalities have adopted the Earned Sick Day ordinances.  I believe in protecting workers and ensuring public health through this ordinance.  The ordinance would allow for the right of workers to earn sick days to care for themselves and their families.  To learn more about this ordinance,      I urge you to attend a meeting scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9th, at the First Unitarian Society of Plainfield on Park Ave.
