One Plainfield.  One Future.
On Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2015, we will join the rest of the nation in celebration of a very important holiday that is centered on the remembrance of soldiers from all American Wars. Whether through a moment of silence, participation in a formal ceremony, parade, or partaking in the decoration of graves with wreathes and flowers, we must remain mindful of the costly price of war.  Please take some time on Monday to remember all of our soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we may live in a nation of the free.

Creating One Plainfield - One Future,

Mayor Adrian O. Mapp
City of Plainfield
Mayor's Town Hall

On May 21, 2015, we held our Town Hall Meeting to a packed house at the Plainfield Senior Center.  Plainfield residents were engaged as members of my administration presented the key accomplishments of the Mayor's Office and Quality of Life Initiatives, Administration and Finance, Public Affairs and Safety, Department of Public Works and Urban Development, and Economic Development.

It was with much pride that I presented special awards to residents from all four wards for their outstanding service to our community. The recipients included First Ward Honoree - Former City Clerk, Laddie Wyatt; Second Ward Honoree - Dorothy Henry; Third Ward Honoree - Dottie Gutenkauf; and Fourth Ward Honoree -  Elliot Simmons.  It was a great evening for all the residents of Plainfield as we discussed the administration's accomplishments and provided a venue for residents to interact with my Cabinet. Residents had the opportunity to ask questions, express their opinions and share concerns.  We look forward to our next Town Hall meeting.

Junior Achievement BizTown Event

On May 19, 2015 I was honored to take part in the NJ Achievement BizTown event with Plainfield students.  This is a great program for Plainfield youth as they are exposed to financial literacy, local government, various job positions including bank tellers, financial services reps, live local radio station workers and managers...all taking place in a "constructed town with a main street." Activities included balancing a checkbook, writing checks for monthly mortgages, and depositing paychecks at the "local bank."  I swore in the newly elected NJ BizTown Mayor, Nidajia Waitlock, who followed with her mayoral remarks and student presentations.

2015 Annual U.S. Postal Service Job Fair

On May 20, 2015, in partnership with the U.S. Postal Service, we hosted the 2nd Annual USPS Job Fair. I am pleased to report that over a 100 Plainfield residents attended the career fair event and had the opportunity to learn about 251 jobs vacancies, the application process, and interview process. Providing Plainfield residents with employment opportunities, resources, and training is a key initiative of the administration. As a result of the USPS job fair last year,100 Plainfield residents were placed in full-time work with great benefits.

Check if your car is part of the Takata recall

If your vehicle is manufactured by BMW, Chrysler, Daimler Trucks, Ford, General Motors, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru or Toyota, you might be affected by a national recall on air bags. Check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's (NHTSA) website using the VIN search tool to confirm whether your individual vehicle is affected by this recall, or by searching by VIN on a specific vehicle-maker's site. Check back regularly as automakers confirm which vehicles are affected.

The recall found that the airbags are made with materials that can rupture over time and have been blamed for six deaths worldwide. This Takata inflator recall affects nearly 34 million vehicles.

As manufacturers supply a complete list of affected vehicles, NHTSA will include updates on its recalls page.

Excerpt from Article:

(Princeton, N.J.) - As National Small Business Week kicks off this week, Choose New Jersey, Inc. is offering small businesses across the Garden State an online tool, RPF Watch, which can help them potentially win millions of dollars in contracts.

With hundreds of Request for Proposals (RFPs) distributed on a daily basis, small businesses can easily miss opportunities for which they are qualified. For small businesses that depend on contracts, RFP Watch can be a game changer.

Congresswoman Bonnie Watson-Coleman: R&D Tax Credit Bill

Washington, DC (May 20, 2015) - Today, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman issued the following statement after the House voted to approve H.R. 880, the American Research and Competitiveness Act of 2015, legislation that would make the Research and Experimentation Credit (R&D credit) permanent without addressing the $182 billion it adds to the deficit:

"Federal support for research and development is absolutely essential to creating high-skilled jobs and promoting a strong economy in my district and across the country, but that support comes at a cost, and this bill refuses to pay it. By making the R&D tax credit permanent without offsetting the costs by closing other tax loopholes, we add $182 billion to the deficit. That's simply unacceptable.

"Republicans have consistently applied a double standard to bills that spend taxpayer dollars - cutting wantonly and invoking the deficit when it comes to programs that help create jobs for working families, but tossing the budget out of the window when it suits them. I support effective, tailored tax relief, such as making the R&D credit permanent, but we need to pay for it so that we can make all of the other important investments this country needs."
