F rom Plainfield City Hall
  Mayor Adrian O. Mapp
One Plainfield.  One Future.

As a community, we have all taken notice of the recent events in the country... from the recent shooting that claimed the lives of our military on July 16, 2015 in Chattanooga, TN, to the unjust arrest of Sandra Bland for a minor traffic violation on July 10, 2015 in Waller County, TX.  Ms. Bland was put in jail and found dead on July 13, 2015. This incident is now the subject of an on-going investigation.  We are all keeping a watchful eye as more and more of these heart wrenching incidents unfold and claim the lives of the innocent.  Whether young or old, this is a lot to process and digest.

All Plainfield residents, business community, non-profit and faith-based organizations are invited to a Plainfield community forum, Healing, Opportunities, Possibilities, and Education (H.O.P.E.).  I encourage everyone
to come out and let your voices be heard! Let's join forces and collaborate to  build a stronger and more engaged community with a quality of life that everyone desires and deserves.

The Forum will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at the Rose of Sharon Community Church, 825 West 7th Street, Plainfield.

My staff and I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday.

Notice to Vendors

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:11-3, the State Treasurer has increased the minimum bid threshold from $36,000 to $40,000 for entities subject to the Local Public Contracts Law whose purchasing agents possess a Qualified Purchasing Agent (QPA) certificate awarded by the Division of Local Government Services.  As such, the new quote threshold for local units with QPAs is

$6,000 (15% of the $40,000 QPA bid threshold).

Local units that do not have a QPA-certified purchasing agent remain subject to the $17,500 minimum bid threshold set forth in N.J.S.A. 40A:11-3 and 40A:11-9a, with the corresponding quote threshold remaining $2,625 (15% of the $17,500 non-QPA bid threshold).

Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:18A-3, the State Treasurer has also increased the minimum bid thresholds for school districts with QPA-certified purchasing agents from $36,000 to $40,000.  Like local units with QPAs, the new quote threshold for school districts with QPAs is $6,000.

The minimum bid threshold for those school districts without QPA-certified purchasing agents has also been increased from $26,000 to $29,000, with the corresponding quote threshold increased to $4,350 (15% of the $29,000 non-QPA school district bid threshold).

The bid threshold adjustments are effective as of July 1, 2015.  The Division will be issuing a Local Finance Notice further discussing the matter.

Volunteers Make a Difference
Are you interested in community service? Then why not volunteer at a Food pantry? Volunteers are vital to the work of food pantries. There are several opportunities in the City of Plainfield to help people in need.   They are located at houses of worship, social service agencies and food banks. Food pantries desperately need individuals to assist with food collection, food distribution, stocking and client check-in. You can help us make a difference.    Please contact Plainfield Action Services at (908) 753-3519.

Plainfield Education Update

Ribbon-Cutting ceremony at Plainfield High School

A Ribbon-Cutting ceremony was held Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Plainfield High Schools (PHS). Among the attendees were Student Athletes, their Coaches and the Cheerleading Squad  who cheered the crowd on during the re-inauguration of the recently renovated PHS gymnasium. We are very proud of the renovations to the gym floor. We are confident that our students and the entire community of Plainfield appreciate the school District keeping its facilities up to the highest standards. The PHS Main Gym floor underwent a quality refinishing process to upgrade the look and feel of the floor. The floor was sanded to bare wood and sealed with two coats of certified 350 V.O.C. compliant oil modified polyurethane sealer, products of the Maple Flooring Manufacturers Authority (MFMA), The Sports Authority. After painting, lining, and applying the custom logo, the floor was sealed with finishing coats of NBA standard polyurethane finish. The basketball "keys" were also painted red to enhance the visual appeal of the floor.

Senator Cory Booker: Service Academy Applications
Excerpt from Cory Booker Website:

Thank you for your interest in serving our country! As your Senator, I am honored to select outstanding young New Jersey residents for nomination to the service academies: the United States Air Force Academy, the United States Merchant Marine Academy, the United States Military Academy, and the United States Naval Academy. It fills me with pride to see the hundreds of patriotic and driven young women and men from New Jersey who wish to serve our country.

Due to the high volume of applicants and limited number of permitted nominations per member of Congress, I strongly encourage all candidates to also apply for a nomination from Senator Menendez, their U.S. Representative, and other possible nomination sources such as President Barack Obama, Vice President Joseph Biden, and the Secretary of Army, Navy, or Air Force. Applying to other offices will not affect your chances of securing a nomination from Senator Booker.

The application and all supporting materials must be received by 5:00 p.m. on October 16, 2015. If for any reason you cannot submit the entire application electronically, all materials should be postmarked by October 16, 2015. Incomplete or late applications postmarked after October 16, 2015 will not be accepted.
