The Leading Edge Research in Chemical Engineering at UCSB

The Symposium is a one-day forum for Chemical Engineering graduate students to present their original research to the department, faculty, and attendees from industry. It is designed to highlight recent research breakthroughs in the department as well as foster connections with industry. The symposium consists of oral presentations by senior students throughout the day, a poster session and lunch, followed by a catered evening reception.

The Importance of Light
On October 8th, we invite you to join us in celebrating UC Santa Barbara's groundbreaking research in light. The topic will be explored with a prestigious panel of experts in the field, as well as a poster session filled with UC Santa Barbara's on-going research and industry activities.  There will be four lectures by Nobel Laureates, including a keynote lecture by Nobel Laureate and former Secretary of Energy, Steve Chu.

The event was developed around the United Nations, which has declared 2015 as the International Year of Light in order to recognize the importance of raising global awareness about how light-based technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to global challenges in energy, education, agriculture and health.

UC Santa Barbara's record of excellence makes us a key leader in the world of lighting and light-based technologies. Three UCSB faculty members have earned Nobel Prizes for their light-based research and UCSB's Institute for Energy Efficiency has recently been named as the West Coast Headquarters of a multimillion-dollar photonics manufacturing institute, AIM Photonics.

2015 Southern California Simulations in Science Conference
Simulations are often called the third pillar of science, in conjunction with theory and experiment.  Computer methods are no longer confined to basic research in academia, and are widely used in the industrial setting.

On October 20th the SCCSC has assembled an exciting group of speakers from a variety of companies, who will discuss how they utilize computation in their respective positions in industry. The talks will cover a wide range of topics yet will remain geared towards a general science audience. This conference allows attendees the opportunity not only to learn how computation is being used in industry, but also to broaden their understanding of other fields in science and engineering.

Who Should Attend:
Students, researchers, and post-docs who are interested in how simulations are used in the business world are encouraged to attend.

Fall Technical Career Fair at UCSB
Wednesday, October 14th from 10am-2pm @ The Thunderdome (Events Center)

The 2015 Fall Career & Internship Fair is a one-day event held in our Events Centervenue that provides your organization an opportunity to recruit candidates for both full-time and internship positions.

This career fair will be sectioned into three areas so that you can target the students that you desire and so that the right students can find you. The three areas will be as follows: Science, Tech & Engineering, Non-Tech, and All Majors (employers who have positions for technical and non-technical majors). When you register via GauchoLink, you will be asked as to what section you would like to be placed and this will be marketed to students accordingly.

We always appreciate any input you may have on how we can improve, so please don't hesitate to send us your feedback. Thank you for your continued interest in our program. For further information, please visit the Industry Center website at: www.industry.ucsb.edu

Sincerely,
