Safety and Security
We had a practice lockdown together with Calgary Police on November 9. They were very impressed by the response of teachers and students and the proper following of procedures. The officers gave us suggestions on how to further improve our lockdown and safety procedures. This was the third time that we practiced together with the Police School Safety Division and the officers were very pleased by the improvements that the school undertakes based on their feedback.
We are constantly working on upgrading security at Akiva based on consultation with Calgary Police, Calgary Jewish Federation and CIJA.
Rabbi Possick
Rabbi Possick, a school consultant from Torah Umesorah visited Akiva Academy this week and met with teachers and administration. He was very impressed by the spirit of comradeship among the teachers, students and parents.
Smart Board Donations
Thank you to Jeff Faber and Sharps Audio Visual for donating 4 Smart Boards to our school. Teachers and Students are very excited to get to use them once they are assembled. Thank you to Rabbi Goldenberg, Enrique and Ralph Maybaum for helping to assemble them. Thank you to Ralph and Austin Maybaum for picking up and delivering the equipment.
Parsha Class
Our weekly Parsha class continues. We meet every Thursday morning from 8:30-9:00 am in the staff room. All parents are welcome to join us. The class focuses on parenting lessons from the Parsha. No prior knowledge or experience necessary.
