Professional Learning News

The start of the school year is always filled with excitement, anticipating new classrooms, new students, new staff and new projects. It is not too early to start planning for professional learning to strengthen practices and to work collaboratively to improve student achievement. Whether you have been a long-time member, a new member who attended one of our events last year, or someone who is interested in our organization,we appreciate you and your commitment to sustained professional learning to improve student success.

We have added some new features to our web site. We now have a Twitter feed, so be sure to follow us on Twitter.  We also added a link to Jennifer Abrams' newsletter and to Learning Forward's weekly Professional Learning newsletter. We will continually update our website with the latest research and information, including information about Learning Forward's annual conference and other learning opportunities in Virginia.  Please feel free to contact us at any time with your comments, ideas, and suggestions.

Learning Forward Virginia hosted Designing Inquiring Minds with Ron Nash and Jenny Sue Flannagan. Participants were engaged and walked away with many strategies, techniques and ideas to support student engagement. Jenny Sue showed us all how to use a raw egg to illustrate science principles!! Ron had us dancing, singing, and engaging in our own learning!

Many thanks go to Apple Federal Credit Union Education Foundation who provided scholarships for 20 new teachers to attend Designing Inquiring Minds. These teachers were from school divisions who are members of the Teachers Induction Network. Thank you AFCUEF!!
