GO-Biz Launches New California Business Portal: A One-Stop-Shop Website for Business Owners

As part of an ongoing effort to provide more on-line tools to businesses, the Governor's Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) today announced the launch of the California Business Portal, a one-stop-shop website for business owners looking for information and assistance ( www.BusinessPortal.ca.gov).

The California Business Portal provides information to business owners on starting a new business, permits and licenses, incentives, local resources and more. The portal is available on the business owner's schedule and has a number of key features, including:
  • Quick Start Guides: Short guides that contain the essential information for starting, and growing specific types of businesses in the State of California.

  • California Business Navigator: Not sure where to start? The Business Navigator provides custom information for your business including permits, licenses and incentives.

  • Service Desk: Get answers to commonly asked questions with the California Business Portal Service Desk. If the information for your situation is not here yet, submit your question and GO-Biz will provide a customized answer.

Proposed Proposition 13 Revisions is Not Good for Business

There's been no shortage of attempts in recent years in the State Legislature to overhaul Proposition 13-California's landmark initiative protecting homeowners and small business owners from out of control property taxes. Multiple bills have taken aim at the proposition, but the most popular among these bills pushes the so-called "split roll" property tax, which would eliminate Prop. 13 protections for business but leave them in place for homeowners. This split roll idea is especially favored by lawmakers who are eager to bring more money into state coffers. CAWA will remain vigilant and fight any proposals to change Prop 13 rules. For more information, contact our legislative advocate, Gary Conover at [email protected] or 916.233.9655.

EPA Bans Use of 134a in New Motor Vehicles

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has issued a final rule that would prohibit the use of certain refrigerants and aerosols, including 134a, based on the availability of better substitutes with a lower global warming potential (GWP). These substances were previously approved by EPA under the Significant New Alternatives Policy (SNAP), which was created to review the health and safety impacts of proposed substitutes for ozone depleting substances.
