The Global Miller blog is an online offshoot of Milling and Grain magazine (formerly Grain and Feed Milling Technology magazine). While the monthly magazine covers milling issues in-depth, the Global Miller takes a lighter approach.
Our columnists have a keen eye for the most interesting, relevant and (let's face it) bizarre milling stories from across the world. Each weekday we scour the internet for top-notch news and package it for your perusal in one neat daily digest. Click here for today's news

China's COFCO to enter global grain super-league with listing
China's giant state-run grain trading company, COFCO, is planning to list within the next three to five years to advance it into the elite group of companies dominating global grain trade. But after 11 years of increasing production, Chinese land prices, inputs, and water are all becoming more expensive, and policy makers will need to reassess the county's self-sufficiency programs. 2014 was the first year that China's agricultural budget was lower than the year before, meaning that the country will produce less, and will need to rely more on imports. - more

What a week at IDMA, Turkey!
The International Milling Directory 2014-15 was well received and made a big hit along with its sister publication Milling and Grain - which was in Turkish! We were in Hall 1 (booth A5) and had a steady flow of visitors.
In fact this was a far bigger show than last time and the size of the exhibition stands were enormous. What a shop window for wheat and cereals milling. Not only were all the key companies exhibiting but many of the significant players in the industry from North America we out in force as visitors. This has to be the most comprehensive exhibition of milling equipment anywhere. Well done IDMA. Darren Parris and myself were fully occupied throughout the event distributing our IMD and the various language editions of MAG, including the April Arabic edition.
