Welcome Summer Interns

Each semester, we are so fortunate to have talented interns donating their time and talent to the House.  Please join us in welcoming our summer interns.

Shaylee Hernandez is working with our Special Events Manager Pam Anderson.  She is a senior at Indiana University studying Nonprofit Management and Fundraising.  She first learned about the House through her sorority Alpha Delta Pi that nationally supports Ronald McDonald Houses.  Shaylee is looking forward to helping to develop opportunities to support the House though fun events like our RMHI ProAm golf tournament.

Dipa Patel is interested in becoming a volunteer administrator so working with Mary Friend is a great opportunity.  She has a degree in Psychology from Indiana University and just earned a Certificate in Philanthropic Studies from the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy.  She is eager to help us  identify ways to better use technology in administering our volunteer program.

Rachael Taylor and Josh Thien are the newest marketing interns and both will be helping Kelly Thien with various marketing projects, particularly social media.  They have been friends for years and both are juniors studying Telecommunications at Indiana University.  Interning at the House interested Rachael because keeping families together is very important to her.  Josh likes the idea of being able to help improve people's lives.

Katherine Wozniak will also be working with Kelly Thien as our multimedia intern.  As a senior at the University of Indianapolis studying Visual Communication Design, Katherine is excited about helping with our rebranding process.  This involves converting all our marketing material to include our new "Togetherness Heals" message and design standards.

Volunteer Recruitment Event

Time and time again, potential volunteers credit current and past volunteers for suggesting the RMHI for meaningful volunteer opportunities.   With this inmind, we are holding a volunteer recruitment event on June 18 from 5-7 pm at our Limestone location where you can do just that, bring friends and family members interested in volunteering to the House to learn more.

.
We will have staff and volunteers from both Limestone and Riley on hand so they can share first hand what it is like to volunteer at the House.

Light refreshments and tours will be available. Come enjoy the company of fellow volunteers and bring a friend or family member along.

We are also looking for a couple more volunteers to help with this event and help provide tours of Limestone

Please RSVP if you will be joining us by contacting Mary Friend at [email protected] or at 317-267-0605, ext. 225.

11th Annual Pop Tab and Coin Drop on Monument Circle

It's almost that time of year again -- time to gather your collections of pop tabs and join us on Friday, July 17, from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at our 11th Annual Pop Tab Drop on Monument Circle. This year we are also introducing a new element to the Pop Tab Drop - a coin drive!

The event will have fun for all ages, including games, music by Pop and the Twisters band, the opportunity to take a picture next to the world's largest pop tab, an appearance by Ronald McDonald himself, and more! So keep collecting those tabs and start saving those pennies. Your small change can make a big difference!

We are excited to announce that we will be returning to the Indiana Landmarks Center for this year's volunteer recognition event on the evening of Friday, September 25.  Please mark your calendars and we hope you will be able to join us for this annual event celebrating our volunteer support. More details will follow as they are confirmed.

Operations Update

Media Inquiries

If you receive a call from the media (TV, radio, or newspaper), you should transfer the call to either Kelly Thien, Director of Marketing (ext. 207) or Michelle Study-Campbell, CEO (ext. 211). If it is during the evening or the weekend please notify the manager on duty immediately. The manager will take the contact information for a return call and immediately notify Kelly or Michelle via their cell phones. Under no circumstances should anyone other than Kelly or Michelle provide any information in response to any media inquiries. Politely explain that you are not in a position to speak on behalf of the RMHI but that their contact information will be passed on to someone who can.

Vacuums at Limestone

Each time a guest borrows a vacuum cleaner, please make sure that it is documented on the log sheet. If the vacuum is not returned within a reasonable amount of time, please contact the guest and ask when we can expect it to be returned. With only three vacuums to share with the entire House, it is important we keep track of them.

Join the RMHI Team For "Heroes For The House"

Here is your chance to invite your family and friends to join us for the Heroes for the House 5K on Saturday, June 20 at the NCAA Hall of Champions in White River State Park.  Each year, the House has a team and this year we are "The Team That Love Built".

Registration is $25 per person.  It is a great way to support the House. Last year, Team RMH@RILEY raised the 2nd highest total amount of money. Please help us raise even more this year.

If you can't join us, we challenge you to support the House by signing up for the House team!  Mike Rhinaman will make sure you get your t-shirt.

Riley News from Rhonda

By now I have met most if not all of you at our Riley location since starting as the Guest Services Manager in April. I am very impressed with each one of you and the fantastic commitment you make sharing of your time and your heart with our families at Riley. Thank you so much for all you do to provide a space of respite and relaxation for our families in their time of need.

Each month, I will be sharing new information specifically for those volunteering at Riley in a column entitled Riley News from Rhonda to help keep everyone updated on important news or changes.  For example, when registering new house guests, please remember to add the email address for each guest at the top of the yellow registration card.

In other news, the C3 Coffee Cart crew has been spreading the news of the Ronald McDonald House on various floors in the hospital as well as cups of hot coffee courtesy of McDonald's.  The courtyard is now open for our guests to enjoy !!! The front reception desk is refinished and will be delivered soon!

Due to volunteers who have moved away, started new jobs, or experienced a change in their life circumstances, etc., we have a number of vacancies in the volunteer schedule. I invite you to consider helping us "fill the gaps" by volunteering for an additional shift, and/or telling family and friends about our volunteer opportunities at the RMHI at Riley.

Please feel free to contact me, Rhonda Hainer,  at [email protected] or 317-944-2236 if you are interested in volunteering on an additional shift or have other recruiting ideas.  If you know someone who would be a great addition to the RMHI team, please have them contact Mary Friend at [email protected] or 317-267-0605, ext. 225.

Look Who Was Caught Rolling Out The Red Carpet

Board member, Chuck Richmond, caught Guest Services Volunteer, Marge Vogel, demonstrating professionalism, respect and dignity at our Limestone location.

Chuck reported: I dropped by the Limestone location for a visit.  As I was walking around the front office looking to see which staff members were in their offices, Guest Services Volunteer, Marge Vogel asked "Have we met before?" Chuck added that Marge did not know who he was, and because he was looking into all the open offices, she could have asked the same question in multiple ways but chose a very friendly, respectful approach.  Chuck stopped by Mary Friend's office before leaving to compliment the House for having such a great front line customer service representative representing the organization.

Thank you Marge!

Congratulations, Marge!  Your name was drawn this month in our Red Carpet Award drawing and your Crew's Carwash pass is in the mail.

Remember if you catch a volunteer or staff member rolling out the red carpet and demonstrating excellent customer service, please submit a nomination using the attached form listing the criteria.  Printed copies of this form are also available in the front office at both Limestone and Riley.  Each month, all nominations are eligible for a random drawing for a Crew's Carwash pass.
