LIGHT UP THE WORLD
Fall Update

We have had an exciting fall at LUTW. Our Aeroplan campaign exceeded our goal of raising 100,000 miles for our project in Guatemala - this is a great way to continue to support our programs into the future and help us reduce administrative costs - thanks to all who participated. Our first annual Dinner in the Dark was also a huge success - our Calgary supporters came together and raised over $7000 for families living in energy poverty and enjoyed a fun evening at Telus Spark. Thank you to everyone who attended the event, we're already looking forward to next year! A special thanks to our event sponsors TransAlta, SkyFire and Enbridge.

As 2015 comes to a close, so does the International Year of Light. The United Nations has recognized how vital light-based solutions are in promoting sustainable development. LUTW will continue with its mandate to provide sustainable lighting and energy solutions to undeserved families who do not have access to electricity and build on the awareness that has been raised this year by the United Nations.

Finally, if you're looking for a holiday gift that that will have a tangible impact and help families move out of poverty, keep an eye out for our holiday campaign coming later this week and consider giving the gift of light and solar power to a family in need. Read more below for an update on projects we completed this past Fall and see what your support can do.

As always, feel free to reach out to us at any time. If you're looking for more regular updates from LUTW, connect with us on Facebook, Twitter , or Instagram.

Wishing you all the best in 2016!

Off-Grid Solar Training in Peru
March 10 to 19, 2016
Learn how to install basic low-voltage off-grid solar PV systems on your own by taking part in the off-grid solar PV training field course in the Peruvian Andes. This intensive training program includes a mix of classroom, practical hands-on exercises and site visits to evaluate existing installations. The program culminates with an off-grid solar electric system installation in a rural community building.  Click here for more information .

Peru Project Update
This past quarter LUTW implemented four off-grid solar projects in Ayacucho and Apurimac in Peru. In the most recent project, 45 families in Huanco Sancos received solar home systems. Most of the systems that were installed have a 20 Watt solar panel to power 3 lights, charge cell phones and power a radio. Thank you to the great volunteers that participated and the energy4everyone Foundation, TransAlta and the Alberta Government's Community Initiatives Partnership for supporting these projects.

4 EASY WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

LUTW is often approached by generous individuals who would like to help us achieve our mission, so we've come up with three easy ways we could use your help:

Help keep the lights on - we rely on monthly supporters to fund ongoing training and support for local technicians.

Save yourself some money, support sustainable power, and by using our referral code, the monthly electrical fee will be donated to LUTW.
