Carter BloodCare Celebrates 12th Annual HEB Challenge!
The first corporation in Texas to become a sponsor of large-scale, organization-wide, multi-location blood drives, H-E-B grocery chain has made blood donation a priority in Central Texas for more than a decade. In 2014, 23 stores hosted blood drives and together collected 577 units of blood with Carter BloodCare. This summer, H-E-B stores will again challenge each other to collect the most blood in a series of onsite blood drives called the "H-E-B Challenge." "More than 20 percent of Carter BloodCare's donations come from high school blood drives, and that number drops significantly during summer months when schools are out," said Carter BloodCare's Michelle Stefan, vice president of Corporate and Community Resources. "We really appreciate partners like H-E-B that energize volunteer blood donors, to make blood transfusion possible for patients, at a time when Carter BloodCare needs it more than ever." The H-E-B Challenge this year will again take place in Belton and Temple. H-E-B Belton will host a blood drive from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, June 25 at 2509 N. Main St. H-E-B Temple will host their drives as well from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday, June 25 at two locations: 3002 S. 31st St. and 1314 W. Adams Ave. Potential blood donors may volunteer beginning at age 16 with parental consent; 17-year-olds may give independently and there is no upper age limit for giving blood. All donors must weigh at least 110 pounds, feel well on the day of donation and present a government-issued photo ID each time they give blood. It's also a good idea to eat a nutritious meal and drink plenty of water before giving blood. For more information on donor eligibility and to make an appointment, call 1-800-366-2834 or visit carterbloodcare.org.

Temple College Business & Continuing Education Needs
Are you a local business owner that has training needs for your employees? If so, check out these questions below from our friends at Temple College so they can help you help your business. As Temple College begins to plan their fall open-enrollment schedule we would like your input. Take a few minutes to think about and answer the following questions and send them to the TCBCE department.
- Are there training needs we could address through our offerings?
- Are there days of the week or times of the day that work better for your employees?
Please share your ideas with them by Wednesday, June 17. They'll merge your input with others, and if they can't address all your needs through open-enrollment, they can also talk with you about contract training
customized for your needs.
Answering these questions is not a commitment to use their services; it is simply a way to open the doors of communication and get the ball rolling, if that is what you choose. Send all questions and responses to Gracie Conner or call for questions at 254.298.8625.
