Chromebook Process for 2015-2016

Next year we are asking families to pay $31 for the usage fee (which still includes the Securly home filtering program). We have decided to contract with Worth Ave Insurance Company to handle repairs as they can both extend the warranty for one more year and provide comprehensive accidental coverage, including liquid damage (see attached).  This also includes damage to the power adapter. The fee does not cover theft (which did not happen this year) or lost device (only one device this year) and power charger (unknown).  It's a great deal!

We are strongly suggesting that all families signup for this program.  The Chromebook program has been very successful this year as all students had the access they needed both in and out of the classroom. Not surprisingly, this year's experience has shown that many unintentional accidents, drops and spills happened.  The insurance option will provide peace of mind at a relatively low cost.  If you elect not to participate then families will be responsible for any damage done to the device, which will be out of warranty.  The school will need  a liability waiver signed so we know you understand this aspect of the program.

Payment should be made by August 1st You will need to know your student's ID number, which is their lunch code and printed on their report card (and in iPass). This is the preferred payment method.

Or, physical checks can be made out to Wayland Public Schools and mailed to:
Leisha Simon
Wayland Public Schools
41 Chochituate Road
Wayland, MA 01778

Please include STUDENT NAME, ID and GRADE on the check.

If you need financial assistance:

The Chromebooks will be re-deployed to students at school via homeroom in September.  They will receive the same device. We will require each family to sign the  agreement page and AUP at that time.

Cases:

The PTO will be offering a new online option for purchasing school supplies (info coming soon). A different type of Chromebook case will be available from this site and students can opt to get one if they prefer that style.

Chromebook Process for 2015-2016

As you learned at the 5th Grade Parent Night, Wayland Middle School is finishing the first of a 3-year Chromebook 1:1 program.  The initiative has been very successful in terms of providing access to quality educational resources and improving students' digital skills.  We look forward to having your students participate for the 2015-2016 school year.

The following information outlines the steps necessary to complete before a Chromebook is handed out to your student(s).

1) Training:
Each family, parents and student(s), must attend a 30-minute training in August or September at the time of deployment.  Please reserve a ticket (one for each student) and allow at least 30 minutes before the training to pickup the device and finish the registration process. For example, if training begins at  6:30, you should arrive no later than  6:00.  If training begins at  7:00, you should arrive by  6:30.  The total time is about one hour.

2) Cases:
Each student will need to bring a Chromebook case with them to the training. The school will not be providing a case this year as part of the fee. The WMS PTO will be providing information on how to purchase a case via their new school supply program. You will be able to purchase just the case if you do not want to buy the other school supply items.  If you do not have a case at the time of training we will hold on to the device until you and the student can acquire one.

3) Signature:
In addition to picking up the device and attending training, parents will need to sign the  WMS Chromebook Care & Use Agreement.  Please read the entire document, sign and bring the last page with you to the training.

4) Insurance Fee:
To pay the $31 insurance fee for Worth Ave, as outlined in the Care & Use Agreement,  please pay online here. Additional information about coverage and Worth Ave is attached.  If you prefer, you may mail a check, made out to Wayland Public Schools, to:
Leisha Simon
Wayland Public Schools
41 Cochituate Road
Wayland, MA 01778.
Please put your student's name, grade and ID number on the memo of the check. This is not mandatory but STRONGLY suggested. If your family opts out of the fee then a  liability waiver must be signed

Financial Assistance:
If you require financial assistance, please follow these links for more information:

5) Select an Option:
Although a fast majority of students bring the Chromebook home each day, families do have the option of keeping the device at school. Please  access this form to select the option that best suits the student's academic needs.

We request that you do not wait until the night of the training to do the steps above...it only makes for a longer line and prolongs the evening for all. Thank you, in advance, for your consideration.

If you have any questions, please email [email protected], WMS Technology Specialist.
