Sunday Seminar
This Sunday, December 20th,
Linda Weltner will present a program titled, "What Was the Creator Thinking?" based upon the book, "Pilgrim at Tinkers' Creek" by Annie Dillard.
Given the complexity, beauty, and grotesque horrors of nature, it is almost impossible to fashion a theory about the intelligence behind this inexplicably broad spectrum of "good" and "evil" in the natural world, but we will give it a try.
Sunday Seminar meets in the Nichols Library (rear of the building), is open to all and nursery care is available. We gather at 8:45 am, begin at 9 am and are done in time to attend Sunday Service at 10:30 am.

Due to the holidays there will be no newsletter on December 24th, but there will be an end of December Newsletter between the end of services December 24th and January 2nd.

Wheel of Life
As many of you know, Rev. von Courter's mother, Hazel, will be having lung surgery on Dec 30th at Mass General Hospital. She is very appreciative of the many cards, prayers and good wishes and hopes to be back in the UUCM pews soon!

Red Bow Thank You!
Thank you to every one who helped to make the Red Bow Fair such a success! There were just so many elves busily working to make our Fair happen.....too many to mention by name. So thank you to those who made baskets, donated to the baskets including one of the Stetson Gallery artists, designed and made wreaths and arrangements, donated and tended the gift table, to those who knitted and knitted and quilted, to those who took charge of our finances whether it was cash, charge or debt, to the bakers and cooks, to the donors and elves in the White Elephant Room, to those who put smiles on the young faces of our children through face painting and ornament making, the doll house builders, painters, decorators and to the four families who furnished the rooms of our yet to be auctioned dollhouse, the Raffle ticket makers, sellers and buyers, for the opportunity to buy electronics and cards, to those who made early morning coffee, hot chocolate and bagels possible, the cooks for wonderful food at the Red Bow Cafe, to those who publicized our Fair through our newsletter, papers, social media, posters and word of mouth, to those who made possible such wonderful choices in the book stall, to those who made available olive oil and 300 anniversary items, to those who set up, cleaned up, to the family members who tended the home fires allowing family members to be at the church, to anyone who did any task, and to everyone who attended the Fair and shopped, shopped, shopped! What a fabulous day it was!

Saturday was great fun!

A few weeks ago The Tricentennial Steering Committee sponsored a potluck lunch. Participants were invited to put Post-its on a timeline mentioning congregation related events that they recall. We are pleased to report that more than 80 Post-its were put up.
Now we are seeking someone who has time and ability to type all these events into a spreadsheet. Ultimately, all the timeline events will be enclosed in the time capsule and sent off to the future for our descendants to read.

We all know the saying, "far better to give than receive"
Study after study show that if you give people some money and half of them spend it on themselves and half give it as a gift to someone else, the givers are more happy.
BUT These studies only show how the giver feels.
How about the poor soul who has to receive??
Hunger Banquet: Our 'Place' At The Table
This was the fourth Sunday of our month-long clothing donation effort and what an effort it has been! The amount of clothing that has been donated more than filled the pews in the chancel and more keeps arriving. Tricia Sullivan has already liberated some of the items to those in need and will continue to do so until all of it has found a home. Testimonies have been offered each week and ranged from people parting with things that are easy to part with to people parting with favorite items, knowing they had 'enough' and someone could use them more. Your donations may continue for three more services: this Sunday, Tuesday's interfaith service and Sunday, November 29th. THANK YOU, EVERYBODY for making your faith visible!

This was the third Sunday of our month-long clothing donation effort. Our focus was how we determine what is 'enough.'
November 8th Message: Breathing Gratitude: How Embodying A Thankful Attitude Changes EVERYTHING!
This was the second Sunday of our month-long clothing donation effort. Each week of November you are invited to donate clothing that will be distributed to those in need at the end of the month. You are encouraged to start with things that are easy to part with and work towards giving up things you enjoy but could do without because someone is in greater need. The items should be clean and not in need of major repair. Socks, shoes, outerwear and other clothing are all welcome.
November 1st Message: Giving It Up For Gratitude
This Sunday kicked off a month-long exploration of gratitude AND a chance to practice it by bringing in clothing donations. We'll be collecting them in the chancel throughout the month and then distributing them to people in need at the end of the month. It's a terrific way to simplify AND share. Both are worthy spiritual practices.

Submissions are due by Tuesday at noon. There are no exceptions except through the minister or UUCM President.
Special emails are only sent out at the discretion of the minister or UUCM President. They are generally reserved for important events requiring additional attention or emergencies. Please do not rely upon these as overuse may result in a lessening of readership for all UUCM communication.
