Your Regional Chamber Connecitons

Minneapolis Chamber 1 2 Bloomington Chamber 3 4 Northeast Minneapolis Chamber 5 6

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
@ToddChamberGuy
Off and Running

It seems that we all hardly get time to catch our breath before we are fully engaged in a new year's worth of activities. From the Chamber's programming standpoint, this is especially true. Here are some examples of great programs we have already prepared for you. Tomorrow morning is the Bloomington Chamber's Annual Membership Meeting. Later this month, Bloomington hosts the Annual Gala (1/23), we cohost Breakfast with the Mayors with the Saint Paul Area Chamber (1/26) and we will present our first Critical Issues Breakfast of the year (1/29).

These are just the beginning of more than 150 opportunities we will offer you and your co-workers in 2016. Programs include ways to build your networks, learn more about our community, meet the public officials that impact your businesses, learn ways to generate new business and have fun. It is our pleasure to create these great opportunities for you and your response has been terrific. Each year's participation is higher than the previous year, so we know we must be doing something right.

We are also off and running with regard to policy issues. While the Minnesota State Legislature does not convene until March, discussions about how to finally address the region and state's transportation infrastructure are well underway. It would be a very productive session if we can solve that issue combined with some tax relief.

We also will continue to work with the City of Minneapolis on elements of the Working Families Agenda. Last year's agreement to take mandatory scheduling off the table was critical. Now, we are closely watching the Commission that is considering whether to recommend a sick leave policy. Regardless of the outcome, it is likely that the City will also be discussing wage theft issues this year. The Chamber is equally concerned about this area, but again, the key will be how any proposed remedy is structured.

So, on many fronts, we have an exciting year ahead. Thank you for making the journey with us.

GO VIKINGS!

The North is Rising
In March 2015, Major League Soccer announced that it had awarded an expansion franchise to the ownership group led by philanthropist Dr. Bill McGuire that also includes the owners of the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Timberwolves.

Currently competing in the North American Soccer League, Minnesota United FC is expected to begin play in MLS by 2017 or 2018, and the Club has embarked on a plan to construct a new soccer-specific stadium located in St. Paul.

The team is seeking your opinion as part of the planning process. The results of this survey will assist them in making informed decisions regarding various elements of the stadium.  All seating concepts and related pricing questions are purely hypothetical.

Please click on the link below to access the new stadium survey. The deadline to complete this survey is January 17th.

Ryan Companies US, Inc. announced plans to relocate their corporate headquarters to a new building within Downtown East, Ryan's $450 million mixed-use development near the US Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis. The 172,000-square-foot, 4-story building, named the Millwright Building, will be located at the corner of Third Street and Portland Ave., adjoining one of the two Wells Fargo Towers and across the street from the new Radisson Red Hotel. Ryan will occupy approximately 55,000 square feet on the lower floors of the multi-tenant building. Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2016 and be completed spring 2017.

Wells Fargo Bank/Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers MCCD)
Wells Fargo provided a $1M Equity Equivalent Investment (EQ2) to the Metropolitan Consortium of Community Developers (MCCD) which provides small business loans and technical assistance to emerging entrepreneurs who may be challenged to underwriting criteria by virtue of being a start-up or those who have credit challenges and/or a shortfall of collateral. MCCD will use the $1 million to fund its Open to Business program, allowing them to directly fund as many as 80 emerging entrepreneurs who would otherwise be unable to access the capital they need to pursue their dreams.

Minnesota United FC/Mortenson Construction
Minnesota United FC selected Mortenson Construction as the construction manager for the team's planned $120 million, 20,000-seat stadium in St. Paul. The stadium will be the home for Major League Soccer (MLS) in the state of Minnesota. Construction on the stadium is planned to begin in 2016. It will be located at the intersection of Snelling and University avenues, in the Midway area.  Design of the stadium will be led by Kansas City-based Populous. Mortenson and Populous have partnered on numerous sports facility projects over the years, including Target Field, TCF Bank Stadium, and Xcel Energy Center. The companies are currently working together on SunTrust Park for the Atlanta Braves and Colorado State University Stadium.
