We are in the homestretch of our last week of work before Winter Break.
As you all have probably heard by now, the CCTR was the benefactor of an incredibly generous $16 million gift last Friday from longtime VCU benefactor, C. Kenneth Wright. This gift shows an enormous commitment by Mr. Wright and VCU to the CCTR. It also further underlines the importance of the work we do and the continued need for advancement of clinical translational research and education. In the coming months, we will undergo a major branding change to reflect becoming a named center. I hope you all will join me in supporting this change that will, no doubt, prove to be an exciting and beneficial development.
Finally, as January 1 is right around the corner, I wanted to take a moment and thank each of you for making 2015 a good year. I'm looking forward to even greater feats of achievement emerging from this center in the New Year because I truly believe us to be a team capable of accomplishing anything we strive for.

Longtime VCU Benefactor Donates $16M to VCU's Center for Clinical and Translational Research
Everyone is talking about the big news (even the
Richmond Times Dispatch!) that
longtime benefactor C. Kenneth Wright has made a generous $16 million gift to name the C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Center for Clinical and Translational Research at VCU.

The gift is the fifth-largest single gift in the history of VCU and will be used to establish six C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Distinguished Chairs in Clinical
and Translational Research as well as the C. Kenneth and Dianne Wright Physician-Scientist Scholars program.

Registration Open for "Ready, Set, Grant!"
Registration is open for "Ready, Set, Grant!", a three-day event hosted by CCTR and the VCU Office of Research and Innovation with more than 40 workshops aimed at helping researchers learn competitive grant writing skills.
Pamela Dillon, Pharm.D., research liaison for CCTR's Research Incubator, will discuss research funding on Wednesday, Jan. 13 in a presentation titled, "Show Me the Money! How to Identify Appropriate Funding for your Research Hospital's Learning Center."
Elizabeth Fortune, M.B.A., CRA administrative director for CCTR, will
participate in "Ready, Set,
Grant!" as the CCTR representative for the Resources Fair & Lunch event. The event will take place Tuesday, Jan. 12 in the Academic Learning Commons.

Former CCTR KL2 Scholar Presents her Periodontitis Research
S. Esra Sahingur, D.D.S., M.S., Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Periodontics for the VCU School of Dentistry and former Center for Clinical and Translation Research KL2 scholar, gave a presentation last week titled, "A New Paradigm in the Pathogenesis of Periodontitis: Intracellular Innate Sensors and Emerging Therapeutic Targets."

Trae Harris Completes Certification Program

Trae Harris, program coordinator for VCU Center for Clinical and Translational Research administration, completed the rigorous "Sponsored Projects Administration Certification Program."
He received his certificate on Tuesday, Dec. 8 at the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park - BioTech One building.
