Fall Elections and Open Appointments for the SAPCC Board

This fall, SAPCC will hold elections for our board. With representatives from both north and south St. Anthony Park, as well as appointments for business, non-profit, and student representatives, we seek a full representation from the neighborhood.

Have you ever thought about becoming more involved in neighborhood advocacy, civic engagement, and community participation? We encourage you to run for the board or apply for an appointment! Our board members make the key decisions for our organization and oversee the work of the Community Council. They envision the future of St. Anthony Park and make great strides in creating it.

We have a few positions open for appointments and elections, but Would you like to hear more about what it's like to serve on the board? Email Suyapa at suyapa@sapcc.org to ask any questions or indicate your interest in running.

We welcome all candidates in St. Anthony Park! We seek a broad representation--from north and south SAP. Our elections will kick off at an annual meeting held in late October. Participants can vote at the meeting or cast an electronic ballot for the next week thereafter. Stay tuned, we'll have more information in the next newsletter and online!

SAPCC and TT-ASAP Announced As Knight Finalists

Both the St. Anthony Park Community Council and Transition Town--All St. Anthony Park were announced as finalists in the Knight Green Line Challenge. Out of 358 applications submitted, only 27 made the finalist round. We're honored to be a part of this passionate group of community activists.

SAPCC, in partnership with the St. Paul Riverfront Corporation, the Creative Enterprise Zone, Union Park, Desnoyer Park, St. Paul Smart Trips and others, submitted a proposal entitled "Bridging the Gap: Connecting the Green Line to the Greenway and Beyond" to develop a coalition to explore connecting the Midtown Greenway to the Green Line via the Short Line Bridge across the Mississippi River.

Transition Town--All St. Anthony Park submitted a proposal lead by SAPCC board member Michael Russell called "Creating a Heart in the Zone: A Market for Body, Mind and Soul" to strengthen community ties in the Creative Enterprise Zone by developing a pop-up market to facilitate a town square where people can connect.

As the final round of the grant continues, the Knight Foundation will decide who to award a total of $500,000 dollars to across all projects. We hope to see both projects get final funding, but can safely say that all of the final projects will do great things for our city. Check out more about the finalists here.
St. Paul Officially Declares Indigenous Peoples Day

SAPCC staff were honored to attend the City Council ceremony to pass a resolution changing Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day in St. Paul. In a unanimous vote by the St. Paul City Council, a resolution to honor indigenous peoples every fall passed. This move, echoed by other cities across the country, including Minneapolis, marks  recognition for native cultures in the United States. Speeches by local activist accompanied the vote and a reception followed.
