Safe Disposal Options
If you cannot participate in National Take Back Day on September 29th, there are ways to responsibly dispose of your medications. Smash the bottles so they cannot be used to obtain a refill and dispose of the medication by mixing it with coffee grounds or cat litter before throwing it away. Do not dispose of any medications in the toilet or the ktichen sink. Keep them out of our water supply.

Every day, 2,000 youths abuse a prescription medicine for the first time and two-thirds of teens who report abuse of prescription medicine are getting them from friends, family and acquaintances. When HC DrugFree staff spoke to  Howard County youth during the 2011-12 school year, we were told that their drug abuse began in the medicine cabinet in their homes or a friend's home and frequently ended on the streets with heroin.
Make sure the youth in your life don't have access to your medicine.
Join HC DrugFree for a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday, September 29th, where a panel of experts, including The Honorable William V. Tucker, Judge, Howard County Circuit Court; Lieutenant Glenn Case, Commander, Vice and Narcotics for the Howard County Police Department; Dudley Greer, Director, Bureau of Substance Abuse Services for the Howard County Health Department; and Joan Webb Scornaienchi, Executive Director, HC DrugFree, will discuss the dangers of prescription drug abuse. A continental breakfast will be provided. This program is in conjunction of The Partnership at Drugfree.org's national campaign, "The Medicine Abuse Project".
