Have you ever been with a group of your friends that just won't listen? Maybe there's something you feel strongly about or something you really need to share and they just won't listen? Or, maybe it's because we don't feel like we can say it well enough. Sometimes we know what we need to say, but just can't get the words right! It can be really frustrating.
Consider this:
"Go and tell Pharaoh, Egypt's king, to let the Israelites out of his land."
But Moses said to the Lord, "The Israelites haven't even listened to me. How can I expect Pharaoh to listen to me, especially since I'm not a very good speaker?"
Exodus 6:11-13
Moses had a really big job. God wanted him to go to the man in charge and make demands! Can you imagine? His friends wouldn't even listen to him, why in the world would the guy in charge listen to him, especially since he didn't think he could get the words right?
Listening is a gift we can give to others even if we don't understand them. It is also a great gift to receive. Communication, in general, is one of those tricky things because you never really know what the other person is thinking or feeling. It's one of those places in life where you just have to do your best.
So, next time you notice someone trying to say something in a group that doesn't seem to hear them...listen. Give them your attention. It is probably one of the most simple and kind gifts you can offer.
Praying you are listening this week...
