Fifth Sunday Offering for the United Methodist Children's Home This Sunday!
Sixth Sunday  In Lent
PALM SUNDAY

Sermon: Rev. LeeAnn Inman
"March Madness"

Scripture: Matthew 27:11-31

Holy Week begins this Sunday, March 29th during our Palm/Passion Sunday services.  We will have special music from a combined youth/adult choir and the children will be participating in our traditional Palm Parade. The parade will occur during the Children's Story at 9:30 a.m. and during a special Children's Story at 11:00 a.m. We also invite you to bring in palm branches from home to use during the service. Plan to arrive early so that you can be a part of the celebration!

GodSpell - March 27, 28 & 29

The Peace Players of Peace UMC will be performing the musical, Godspell, on Friday, March 27 and Saturday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m., with an additional performance Sunday afternoon on March 29 at 2:00 p.m. Originally created by John-Michael Tebelak, the musical Godspell was based on improvised reenactments of scenes, primarily from the Book of Matthew, and music from traditional hymns.

Godspell was designed as a thought provoking examination of a group of everyday people, brought together by a knowledgeable, loving teacher into a community of believers.  Discovering their common purpose through stories of joy, love, gratitude, judgment and redemption, the group bonds over shared challenges and obstacles as they begin their faith journey.

Under the directorship of Jackie and Ken Shadrake, Godspell will be performed at Peace UMC by a talented cast of musicians, actors and singers.  It is one of the great examples of life imitating art that our cast features familiar faces from all of our different ministries and styles of worship.  So come learn about living good lives.  Come see the formation of a community of believers.  Come sing about love!  And bring some friends along - this is a great opportunity to invite folks to Peace!  General Admission- suggested donations are $10.00 for adults and $5.00 for students to cover production costs, and our children's and youth mission teams will be offering concessions at each performance.

Family Passover Seder Meal - April 1 @ 6:30 p.m.

The Jewish roots of Communion will enrich our experience of Holy Week on Wednesday, April 1 at 6:30 p.m. in the sanctuary. We will share a traditional Passover Seder meal and worship together as we sing the songs and tell the stories of faith.

It is the Seder meal that Jesus shared with his disciples in the Upper Room, the beginnings of our sacrament of Holy Communion. At the table of the Lord we celebrate the ultimate gift of God's saving love: Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.  Don't miss this special evening!

Maundy Thursday Service with Holy Communion -
April 2 @ 7:00 pm.

Our Peace Youth are playing a major part in the leadership of this service. Don't miss Maundy Thursday with Holy Communion on Thursday, April 2 at 7:00 p.m.  Join Jesus' disciples at Peace for a celebration of the Last Supper.  We will conclude with Christ in the garden of prayer around the labyrinth.

The English word "Maundy" comes from the Latin mandatum, which means "commandment." As recorded in John's gospel, on his last night before his betrayal and arrest, Jesus gave them a new commandment to love one another as he had loved them.

The Way of the Cross - April 3 @ 5:00 p.m.

On Good Friday, April 3rd, we will be partnering with our friends in Christ at the All Saints Lutheran Church and Iglesia Luterana Cristo Rey in South Chase for a project called "The Way of the Cross" (El Camino de la Cruz).  In order to visibly demonstrate the idea of following the cross for our community, as a group we will carry a cross from All Saints to Peace along the sidewalks of Orange Blossom Trail and Town Center Blvd (approximately 4 miles).

We will begin at 5:00 p.m. with a brief devotion at All Saints on Balcombe Road (near the South Creek library) and end at Peace.  We will use the church bus to ferry people as needed and provide water and help crossing intersections.  This is a community event for all who wish to participate.  For more info contact the church office 407-438-8947 or [email protected]

Good Friday Service of Darkness - April 3 @ 7:00 p.m.

Our Good Friday worship will be held on April 3 at 7:00 p.m.  Also known as Tenebrae, meaning "darkness," it has been practiced by the church since medieval times.

Scripture readings, music and symbols tell the story of Christ's passion.  In the darkness of the sanctuary, we ponder the depth of Christ's suffering and sacrifice for us.

Easter Sunday Worship Services - April 5

Easter Sunday is the most joyous celebration of the year! This is the one day each year when your friends, family, neighbors and co-workers are most likely to attend a church service--if you ask them. So we're asking you. And we hope you'll ask the people God has placed in your life.

Easter Sunday Worship Services 7:00 (sunrise service - please bring your lawn chairs), 8:15, 9:30 & 11:00 a.m.
Simply Relevant: "Chocolate Boutique" - April 15

Our sessons guide you in discovering all about God's grace-how richly, extravagantly, and surprisingly he indulges us with his love and grace.  What better metaphor for GRACE is there than CHOCOLATE?  Each month there will be bible lessons for real life, decadent snacks, fun activities, prayer, and girlfriend time.

Simply Relevant will be held the third Wednesday of every month beginning at 6:30 p.m.  April 15, May 20, June 17, July 15 and August 19.  If you liked "HeartSpa" last summer, you're going to love this creative study by the same authors!

To RSVP contact Jana Hart at 407-438-8947 or [email protected] (Childcare will be provided)

"WeServe Weekend" - April 18 & 19

The Peace Outreach and Missions Team encourages you to participate in our WeServe Weekend, coming up on Saturday and Sunday, April 18th and 19th.  Sign up for one of our community service projects or get a team together and create one of your own!  This is the Spring edition of our popular SundayServe event from the Fall.  Sign up for one of the following projects:

  •  Cleaning apartments for the elderly at the Salvation Army Towers (Sunday Afternoon)
  •  Visiting residents at Hunter's Creek Nursing Center and Consulate Health Care in Kissimmee (Sunday Afternoon)
  •  The infamous Shingle Creek Trail Clean-up walk/paddle
  •  HOUSE PAINTING (Saturday and Sunday editions, or both days!)

That's right, we are painting an entire house of a member of the Peace family who needs some help with that project.  See the sign up sheets on the back table, check out the website, or email Eddie Pipkin directly at [email protected] either to volunteer or to suggest a project YOU would like to be a part of.

"Gift of Life" Ministry Event - April 22

In Matthew 25:40, Jesus says, "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." (NIV)

That leaves us with the challenge to be prayerful about who "the least of these" are in a hurting world.  Out of 200,000 children in India needing heart surgery, only about 5,000 receive it.  This does not include 78,000 infants that die each year of heart defects and disease.  Can we save all of them?  No.  Can we save some of them?  Even saving one child can make a difference in the lives of a family who cannot afford or have access to treatment.

Peace United Methodist Church invites ALL in the community to participate in a pot luck dinner on Wednesday, April 22 from 6:15 pm - 7:45 pm.  Come learn how Ludhiana Christian Medical College Board USA is making a difference in the lives of many children with heart disease.  Medical College and Hospital doctors donate their time and facility.  They need our help for the supplies.

Bring an Indian, International or American dish to share - or just come with a big appetite to eat and learn more about this program from Rev. Roberta K. Jones.  Rev. Jones has done extensive work with the United Methodist Committee on Relief, as well as her long connection to the Ludhiana Medical College.  In addition to her travels to India, she also served as a missionary to Korea and Taiwan, and led volunteer teams to Sierra Leone, West Africa.  This event is sponsored by Peace United Methodist Women.

Youth Dinner & Silent Auction - April 24
Donations Needed Now!

On Friday, April 24 at 6:00 p.m., the Student Ministry of Peace United Methodist Church will be hosting their annual Dinner & Silent Auction. We are asking for donations of NEW merchandise and/or gift cards and certificates that we can auction at our event.  We're also in need volunteers to assist with cooking, set-up and decorating.  Any help that you can provide would be deeply appreciated!

This is a great opportunity to participate in a meaningful way in the lives of the young people in our church community and to assist in the mission work that will take place this summer.  All items can be brought to the church office throughout the week (Monday -Thursday from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 or Fridays from  8:30 a.m. - Noon) or dropped off with a church staff member on Sundays.  Thank you for your support!  To volunteer contact Bonnie White at [email protected].  For more information about our Youth program, please go to our website: www.peaceyouth.net.

We Need YOU!

The 45s (4th and 5th graders) Bahamas Church Exchange Ministry Team needs prayer support! Our team will travel June 11-14 to Nassau, Bahamas to partner with our sister church, St. Michael's UMC, in being the hands and feet of Christ for the underserved in Nassau.

This is where YOU come in!  We are assigning prayer partners for each individual team member - you can pray from the comfort of your own home, and there's no degree in religion required!  For more information, or to sign up, please contact Cat Bruce at [email protected].
Children's Ministry News

The 45s had a great turn out for our first Overnight with a Mission focus.  Sixteen kids and five chaperones began Friday at 8:00 a.m. with a trip to Wycliffe Bible Discovery Center and then CRU. We spent the night at South Street Ministries, spending time at Reeves Terrace playing with the kids in that development. Saturday we had a flash Easter Egg Hunt at Bear Creek and shared about our experiences and sang with the residents at Spring Hills Assisted Living. To finish out the day, we learned about Imagine No Malaria and shared in a pot luck worship experience with parents and friends.  We were tired, but had a great time. Thank you to all parents and families who supported us with supplies, prayers and time. Your contributions were greatly appreciated.
