August 3, 2015 San Diego, CA-
National Night Out events across the nation, provide an annual opportunity for community building and promote neighborhood safety and the events in Colina Park and Teralta Park on Tuesday August 4th are no exception. These events provide an opportunity to strengthen community-police relations and trust, which is particularly important this year following some disturbing incidents across our nation.
"Safe neighborhoods are built on neighbors looking out for neighbors. Building positive relationships with our local PD is also crucial to ensuring that our community is reporting crime, and working with PD to enhance the safety of our neighborhoods. These events help bridge communication between local PD and policy makers in a fun, family friendly setting."
-Maritza Maksimow, Teralta Outreach Manager City Heights Community Development
Our nation has been ravaged by the escalating tensions between police and private citizens, and National Night Out strives to repair these broken relationships. Here at City Heights CDC, we strongly believe in the importance of working together as a community, both with our neighbors and with local law enforcement. Through these two events, we hope to bring neighbors and police together in support of a thriving and healthy community for all citizens.
The theme for this year will be: "Good Choices and Supportive Partnerships," underscoring the role of personal responsibility and strong community support in fostering safe and healthy neighborhoods throughout City Heights. Both Colina Park Night Out and Teralta Park Night Out will provide a family-friendly environment where neighbors can network, find resources, get involved and engage with police officers in a non-emergency, non-confrontational environment.
