From the Desk of the PTA President
Congratulations RES PTA!
On Monday, April 20th, I attended the Chesterfield County Council of PTAs Annual Dinner & Recognition Meeting with Carissa Smith (President-Elect), Jenner Watson (Vice President of Programs), Mrs. Waldrop and Mrs. Hobson. We
were honored to represent our school as we were recognized with FOUR awards:
- 100% PTA Membership
- 100% Teacher Membership
- Increased Membership
- The Applause Award (an award that recognizes several different categories and benchmarks that we had met as a PTA)
Additionally, in late March, our school was recognized as one of three schools in the James River District (which includes Brunswick County, Chesterfield County, Colonial Heights City, Dinwiddie County, Hopewell City, Petersburg City and Prince George County) that had achieved 100% Participation.
Many thanks to everyone who is a member and participates with the PTA in our events, activities and programs throughout the year! Our success is attributable to the great parents, teachers and staff at Robious Elementary!
Our next PTA meeting is Monday, May 4th at 7pm in the Library at which we will be electing our new Executive Board officers for the upcoming school year. Please see our website (http://www.respta.org) for the slate of candidates to be presented.
As always, if you are interested in learning more about the PTA and the different ways that you can volunteer, please plan to join us - we welcome new faces and new ideas!

Principal's Post
During the week of May 4th - May 8th it is Teacher Appreciation Week, and we will be celebrating our wonderful teachers; however, I don't want
it to start and end this week. What you've heard me say in the past, and I will emphasize it in this newsletter article - ROBIOUS ELEMENTARY HAS AMAZING TEACHERS! I feel so lucky for the students, the parents, the staff, and myself to have such skilled practitioners, creative artists of their craft, compassionate hearts, and lifelong learners. Please use the time we have left in school this year to thank your child's teacher. Something as small as a simple note, email, etc. will go a long way to show appreciation for our teachers who spend hours every night and weekend and put their hearts into making educational experiences that will have a lifelong impact. I don't know what I would do without these teachers - I just think the world of them!
Here's a poem that made me think of the teachers at Robious Elementary School:
I'm happy that you're my teacher; I enjoy each lesson you teach. As my role model you inspire me To dream and to work and to reach. With your kindness you get my attention; Every day you are planting a seed Of curiosity and motivation To know and to grow and succeed.
You help me fulfill my potential;
I'm thankful for all that you've done.
I admire you each day, and I just want to say,
As a teacher, you're number one!
By Joanna Fuchs
Thank you for your support and collaboration in taking time to show your appreciation for our teachers. Let's extend this gesture all year long!
Respectfully,
Tammy Hobson

Our local groups are in need of supplies - not just pet items but everyday items, too, such as paper towels, trash bags, etc. Please see the attached flyer
here
f
or items in need. The drives will run from May 11th through May 27th. The Brownies have prepared collection boxes which are located outside of the library and the cafeteria.

The PTA's Community Service Committee members and their children made cards in April for Connor's Heroes -- a non-profit group founded by a former Robious family to give back once their son, Connor, who was diagnosed with cancer before his 2nd birthday, won his long battle against cancer. The cards we made are for the kids/patients to receive on their birthdays, or as thinking of you cards so that they feel connected to other kids while getting their cancer treatments.

Big Success!
Earth Week was a success again this year! We had great participation in our "Turn off Your TV" and "Green Hour" challenges... so much so, that the kids again won new playground/recess equipment and a "Wear Your Clothes Backwards" Day this coming Friday, May 8th. We also had a good turnout for our final Walk to School Day of the 2014-2015 school year.As the school year comes to a close, please remember our Clothing to Cash bin in the teacher parking lot. You can drop any old textiles you no longer have use for in the bin and the PTA earns money for the donation! Also, don't forget to send in your aluminum can pop tabs in for Ronald McDonald House. Last year, we collected 12 pounds of aluminum for this great cause. Do you think you can help us get to 20 this year?
Thank you, as always, for everything you do to keep RES green.

Programs
Wrap-Up
Thanks to all the moms and their boys who came out for Dodgeball night (i.e., First Annual Mother-Son Celebration). If we could harness the energy from that event, the school could get off the grid!
Special thanks to Ben Pearson-Nelson for showing up and being our referee/game leader.
That's it for programs this year. I've had a blast, thanks for your support :).
