We spend a lot of time talking with adults about race, difference, integration and inclusion throughout the year. But we gained a whole new perspective on facing and embracing differences with the reading of Queen Rania Al Abdullah's story

The 2 nd Annual Cultural Heritage Festival, one the region's most exciting and diverse events, is this Saturday, June 6 th, 11 am to 5 pm (rain date June 7 th) at Maplewood Memorial Park. This free day of entertainment and activities celebrates the culture, arts, and community spirit of the region by bringing together a variety of talented performers and vendors who showcase the many cultures in our community and throughout NJ.

Over 150 people gathered at Congregation Beth El to listen to Prof. Michael Jeffries' presentation on micro-aggressions and then to talk in small groups about how to overcome this form of racism. Read more...  Participants were given a take-away anti-bias card, based on the Teaching Tolerance Speak Up campaign that is available as a pdf here.

Two Towns - Many Stories:  The Sandwich Swap

Two Towns-Many Stories for kids was a big hit! Thanks to Jane Folger, head of children's services at Maplewood Memorial Library, for reading The Sandwich Swap and creating such a great activity. The kids made some very interesting sandwiches--and they ate them up!  

Planning Ahead

Middle School Parents learned how to navigate the CHS Handbook and Course Catalog, plus they got advice from parents who have been through the process on how to help kids plan their schedules to meet their post- high school goals, and a lot more. More...
Coffee House Conversations 

Each year at Conversations on Race people ask if we can host more frequent, casual conversations-especially when they are so many emerging race-related issues across the nation. Join us on Thursday, June 18th, 6:30 pm at The Rack on 1844 Springfield Ave., Maplewood for the first gathering.
