Your Regional Chamber Connecitons

Minneapolis Chamber 1 2 Bloomington Chamber 3 4 Northeast Minneapolis Chamber 5 6

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
@ToddChamberGuy

MN on Top

As we break to celebrate our country's Independence Day, we should take time to also celebrate and appreciate the top ranking Minnesota earned in the CNBC annual Top States for Business comparison. Watch CNBC's Coverage. More than 60 metrics were examined in ten distinct categories for this honor. As you might expect, MN took high marks for workforce, education and quality of life. Also to be expected, our ranking is affected negatively because of our tax costs. I believe we will bring some business costs down during the 2016 Legislative session, making our state's position even stronger in the years ahead.

Volunteers Needed Immediately
The National Senior Games are taking place here beginning this weekend bringing nearly 10,000 athletes, competing in 19 sports. Volunteers are still needed. In particular, many volunteer spots are open around the Fourth of July. What a great thing for good-hearted Minnesotans to do for their country --- to volunteer their time to this event that promotes health and wellness for seniors!

Many volunteer shifts are still available, but they are in most need for the below competitions and at the airport:

  • Basketball - scorekeepers | July 7-15 | University of St. Thomas and St. Thomas Academy
  • Volleyball - scorekeepers | July 8-15 | Minneapolis Convention Center
  • Archery - scorekeepers | July 4-11 | St. Thomas Academy
  • Badminton - scorekeepers | July 4-11 | Minneapolis Convention Center
  • Airport Greeter | July 4-13 | Minneapolis Airport

Training and other benefits will be provided. Volunteers can be ages 16 and up. To sign up to volunteer, please visit www.TeamMNVolunteer.com.

Here is a link to a great video on the games: www.nsga.com/nsga-spotlight-video.aspx

Another Volunteer Opportunity
The Ronald McDonald House is opening a new location in Saint Paul providing families a comfortable and caring home-away-from-home while they face their child's serious illness. They are currently recruiting volunteer groups to participate in their Cook for Kids meal program at this new facility. Learn more about the Cooks for Kids program.

Ongoing Chamber Volunteer Options

If these two volunteer opportunities do not fit into your schedule, then check out our Chamber Community Connections and BCC Community Outreach events. They provide a great opportunity for your employees to get out of the office, lend a hand to a Chamber member non-profit, and make new acquaintances. We are grateful to Thrivent Financial for their support of the Chamber Community Connections program.

And, if your company provides paid time off for volunteering or corporate matches and you are not a current member of the Minnesota Keystone Program, please consider joining. It is a free program that recognizes companies that give 2% or 5% of pretax earnings back to charitable organizations.

Happy Fourth.

Got the Urge to Network?
ConnectForLunch Dramatically Updated

Our ConnectForLunch program has just been dramatically updated. Instead of the current version, which offered only one day each week, the new version will now be available three days every week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 52 weeks a year.

And there's more improvements. Lots more:

  • You'll have more choices: Now you can choose which restaurant you'd like to go to, instead of being assigned to a particular restaurant by the software. French cuisine? Italian? Vegetarian? A restaurant that's close by? The choice is yours.
  • And more choices: You can choose to meet new contacts, renew contacts with businesspeople you've met before, or both. Just pick the group you'd like to join... or start your own group.
  • And more flexibility: Instead of the current twice-a-month subscription which restricted you to only two lunches a month, you'll be able to buy packets of five, ten or twenty lunches which can be used at any time. Any unused lunches are fully refundable within six months after purchase.
  • And even more flexibility: Have an opening in your schedule? No more waiting until next week to go to lunch: you can go to lunch as early as the next day.

Click here to see upcoming lunches.
